As you join the Heart of Ohio DUG, please take a moment to introduce yourself, where you work, and what you are currently doing with Drupal so we can all get a sense of where we all are in our development.

Tom Grandy Intro

I work for Tri-County Computer Services Association in Wooster, Ohio. We are the primary ISP and web applications host for 23 school districts we serve in Ashland, Wayne, Holmes, and parts of Medina County. Though originally a Journalism teacher, I have morphed from professional development to software development specializing in setting up and training people to use Content Management Systems.

This past summer, we began migrating away from our third-party CMS provider (though we hosted their software in-house) to Drupal to free us up from late upgrades, strange database structures, cobbled code, and poor support. When finished with the first round of rollovers, we will have moved 16 school districts over to a Drupal 6 environment matching feature for feature with what we had with the prior CMS. Once finished (yes, there is light at the end of the tunnel now) we can start adding more modules to make their sites more dynamic.

Additionally, our hope is to start writing custom modules by this summer that meet the unique needs of the K12 environment. Our team is small - three people - a graphic artist, a database manager and php programmer, and myself. Eventually, we would like to create a distribution for the K12 environment to help schools with limited tech support get up and running on Drupal by their not having to re-invent the wheel.

That's about it for me. What about you?
