Git is a free & open source, distributed version control system designed to handle everything from small to very large projects with speed and efficiency.

LOCATION: SAW Video (in the same Arts Court building as Artengine but at a different entrance!)

Enter at 67 Nicholas St, on the WEST side of Arts Court (2 Daly Avenue, Ottawa, ON which is across the street from the Rideau Centre and Novotel hotel).

PUBLIC TRANSIT: Mackenzie King Bridge or Rideau St. stations at the Rideau Shopping Centre.

Using Git to push content to web server

Hi Colan,

I'm interested in using Git as a version control system for myself and other colleagues working on the the same drupal site. I'm hoping that we can touch on this at our meet up.

We're using Bluehost, which doesn't officially support Git. I wonder if there are other hosts that provide better out of the box solutions?

I see that Github is a popular service for Git clients, but I'm a bit foggy on what the workflow would be like to use Github which is disconnected from the web host. I'd have to checkout the latest code from Github, upload it to my host, import the database, before I could see how the code submitted to Github worked on my site.

It would seem that I'm looking for a host that could host my Git accounts and server code from the repository on a live basis?

Hopefully this makes some sense, if not, I'll bring it to the meeting on Monday.

Hello have you tried http://smart-serv.net.

They do have git up and running and I never had a big problem getting support for anything yet.

hey.. didn't get a chance to say thanks for the GiT intro today.... went to 2 sessions on GiT at Drupalcon and this was far more informative than either of those.

Thanks for the feedback. However, I should have used more architecture diagrams. Also, I should mention gitk on the slides.

Jesse found the session to be very useful.. We'll try to write up some of the stuff we've been doing with sub-modules and multi-site installs with git to contribute back.

So much interesting work with the Pegasus & Unicorn discussions from Git Phase Next too.
