If you are talking about storage, then yes it does.
Because you don't need to create a separate package for each new site.
With multi site, you can have a single Drupal core and the most common contributed modules in /sites/all/ directory.

Yes genius it lowers
Yes genius it lowers storage requirement of memory,
But it can incease runtime memory occupied,
That may cause load at server or lazzy running of sites,
Specially in case when you are using common database,
As per i think..... No idea what other person thinks for it ....
