Dashboard Customization

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I have been trying to create a dashboard in which a droplet requires user input once and that is displayed on the Dashboard. Here is the scenario, a user has selected Web Feeds as a droplet. Now once the user is adding it to his dashboard i want to specifically ask the user, which web feed he wants to display (a checkbox which would show all the Web Feeds and the user selects them) and then display them permanently on the dashboard (whenever he log's in again it should save the same settings).

Native support

There is native support for Web Feeds. No need to create a droplet.

It was an Example

tankala's picture

It's was just an example (the feeds thing). I am making a simple Project Analysis site, in which we have data(Some Forms like data entered) about various project related matrixes. Now we want to show a graph to the person on the basis of the data available in the site related to the project the user is assigned to. Now if the user is related to various projects then the system is not able to show any data as its not getting which data to show. Now I want that when a person selects a droplet we have some way by which the user can specify which project data he wants to see. Is that possible using MySite or any other module you know. I would be glad if you can help me out in this.

API

It is possible. You would need to use the API to create your own
"type" plugin to register the options available to the user and the
data handlers for presenting the data. The API supports searching for
options, settings per user, and most (if not all) of the features you
need. But you will have to write some code.

See http://therickards.com/api for the API and
http://drupal.org/node/119583 for a tutorial.

A simple way to do it ?

Ek0's picture

Isn't there a simple way to make configurable droplets ? For example, if I just want to make a droplet this way: there is an a field that the user fills in the configuration page of the droplet, and the droplet just displays the content of this field (The real application is more complicated). Do you I really have to create a new content type ? Besides, doing this way, the way to add a block is not very intuitive: the user must create the content and then the block corresponding (i am building an igoogle-like).
