Thanks jrpo - March 24th
Thanks jrpo - March 24th works well. Btw do you know if they have a projector to allow for the webinar of the the ICE tool?
ICE tool demo
Has anything been established for that? I saw the discussion, but no conclusion(actually, from the discussions, it looked as though a webinar was the preference, not a live demo at a meeting.)
Has the developer (Business Integration Technology?) been invited to attend our meeting?
Sorry, you guys are going to have to fill me in a bit, since I missed the Feb meeting.
We can probably get the projector, but if the developer is giving a demo, it would probably be better if they brought their own, if possible.

SQL ICE Demo - Tuesday, 3/22
Did you see the announcement I posted yesterday? You need to register in advance!!
SQL ICE Demo - How to Use SQL ICE to Access Your Drupal Data
Join us for a Webinar on Tuesday, March 22, 10am Central
Reserve your Webinar seat now at:
https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/882042968
Are you a Drupal user and do you know SQL? If you answered "yes", then SQL ICE could be a useful tool to have on your desktop.
In this session, we will demonstrate how you can use SQL ICE to access your Drupal data, using the same version of SQL ICE (v.1.1.1) that is available as a free download from our site, to run queries against the data from our live Drupal site.
We will begin with some basic queries that simply list all of the data you have in a particular table, and progress through more and more complex queries that produce results based on specific matches, including a "join" that combines records from multiple tables.
SQL ICE was launched by Business Integration Technology in January, 2011. It is a comprehensive tool that has many diverse functions:
- manage queries in one place (batch updates, scheduled reports, etc).
- publish new and ad hoc reports for users on the Web in minutes, even for legacy applications
- integrate applications through database tables using Web services
- create & deploy complete Web-based applications
Check it out!
For more information, visit our web site: http://businessintegrationtechnology.com/SQLICE.html
To see it in action, attend the demo.

SQL ICE Demo forthcoming!!
Sorry for the delay!! I'm trying to get my resources lined up on this end, trying to find out when they are available for the demo. I was hoping it would be later this week, but I also want to give the group here enough notice to be able to attend. It might end up being early in the week next week.
I plan to get it scheduled and post a notification tomorrow by end of day.
Thanks for your patience!!

SQL ICE Demo...
I am unable to attend the demo on March 22nd at 10am as I will be at a clients. Will this be recorded for viewing later?
Also, does this mean the 24th meeting is out?
Thanks,
Michael
Meeting for the 24th is on!
The meeting for the 24th at the Guild, 7:00 PM is definitely still on.
I'm sorry the SQL ICE demo somehow or another became confused with our regular meeting.
The two are shaping up as totally separate events, although I'm sure we would be pleased to have any follow-up discussion at the Thursday meeting, and Lori or anyone from Business Integration Technology would certainly be welcome to attend.
Meeting for the 24th is on!
Whew. Glad it's still on. I might be late though as my son has soccer practice until 7pm.

Hoping for DrupalCon Chicago Reports
I hope anyone and everyone who made it to DrupalCon Chicago will make it to our regular meeting this coming Thursday, Mar 24, and fill us in on what happened in Chicago!
I know Ben went... anyone else?
Jean
Sorry for the confusion!
So sorry for the confusion! It seemed to me that the consensus was to do a webinar. Since I need the attendance of some colleagues at the demo (SQL expert, developer) to help answer questions & jump in on discussions, I scheduled it during normal working hours. I also have a conflict and can't attend the meeting Thursday evening.
I plan to record the session and will post an announcement it's available up on our site.
Thanks,
Lori Folta
BIT
No problem...
Just wasn't sure if the demo took the place of the meeting. Glad you are recording it as I would love the make the webinar but just can't be available.
Thanks,
Michael
Mar 24 Meeting at 7:00 PM
Okay, just to reiterate.
Our March meeting is Thursday, Mar 24 at 7:00 PM. come one, come all. Hope to hear some reports from DurpalCon Chicago, and anything else of interest to the group.
A separate item entirely, is the SQL ICE demo at 10 AM Tuesday the 22nd. If you want to attend that webinar, you must register ahead, see http://groups.drupal.org/node/134844
I was at DC Chicago, and am
I was at DC Chicago, and am now in Rome for a week. I should be back in time to let the jet-lag wear off before the Thursday meeting. Looking forward to sharing my experience, and hearing from others about whatever's happening in STL. It'll be nice to be home!
A couple notes: First, here's some notes/observations from one of (what I thought was) the most important sessions at DC: http://www.midwesternmac.com/blogs/jeff-geerling/scaling-drupal-communit...
Additionally, I could give a quick/brief overview of how I set up an entire website and slightly integrated iPhone app (http://catholicnewslive.com/) using a Drupal distribution, Managing News.
Finally, I have a projector (brought it last month) if we need one.
Projector
Yes, bring your projector if you can. The Guild's projector is still in use in an exhibit, so I would rather not move it. Thanks!
Missed you
We missed you Jeff. We had a small turnout, which gave us a nice opportunity to causally discuss individual issues we have come across. Hope you can make it next month.
Wow!
You have been getting around! Hope to see you Thursday!
Reminder, meeting tomorrow evening!
Hey everybody, just a reminder that our March meeting is tomorrow evening, Mar 24 at 7 PM, at the Artists' Guild. We don't have many sign-ups, so those of you planing on coming who did not sign up will not get an automated reminder... so I'm sending one manually. Hope to see everyone there!
March meeting...
I forgot to reply, but I will be there. Looks like I won't be late either.
Thanks,
Michael
Drupal Meetup
I'll be there, and I hope some of the Drupalcon folks are coming to share their experiences.
BTW - I launched my first Drupal 7 website last week. It is a search engine of sorts, so it heavily leverages the Views and (built-in) Search modules. I had to do some hacking to fix some Views (alpha version) bugs that dealt with search, but it is working great now. 12,400 nodes and counting, imported via the Feeds module. The website is at http://simsfinder.com/
Looking forward to the meeting
See you. Eliot
A follow-up on my site
Two things I picked up yesterday evening: the tip to add a little CSS to always make the scroll bars always visible, to eliminate the horizontal jump when moving from a short page to a long page. That's nice little added touch – thanks, Michael!
Second, aliasing a taxonomy term to a filtered views page seems not to work... from what I can tell so far, the question mark in the url is not allowed with path aliasing. I can redirect to the view (which gives me the exact result I want), but I can't use wild-cards or tokens in url redirects, so that isn't a good solution either. Still looking at options on this.
Makes Sense
The limitation with taxonomy aliasing makes sense. Thanks for reporting back on how it went.
Partial answer
As it turns out, building a custom view to swap in for taxonomy pages is quite easy: Views (or one of its plugins?) has a default view that, when enabled or cloned, allows you to build a view that is automagically swapped in for the taxonomy terms (the view is called taxonomy_term). It defaults to nodes, but can be switched to fields and customized to grids or lists, or whatever, and fields can be added or limited, etc. The view can be limited to specified vocabularies. Giving this view the same class as the view I want to emulate automatically formats the grid for me.
This does bout 80% of what I need to do. What it doesn't do is include the tabs and term selector I have on the real view (which I do get with forwarding). If I were a little smarter or more experienced with all this, I could probably figure out the rest. I think the key may be in studying that default taxonomy view, and digesting how the urls for the terms are auto-built.
D'oh! Sorry I couldn't make
D'oh! Sorry I couldn't make it - had a last-minute notification of a meeting I had to attend with regard to a political campaign I'm helping with. Anyways, I look forward to the next meeting!
