We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Hello,

We are in the early planning stages for Drupalcamp Atlanta 2011 and wanted to throw Saturday, October 8th out as a potential date.

Does anyone know if this conflicts with any other Drupal/OSS events or major happenings in the Atlanta area? I know Do it With Drupal and the Pacific Northwest Drupal Summit are scheduled for the following week.

Finally, interested in volunteering? We will begin to tee up committee meetings soon. If you would like to help out please reach out to me at dave dot terry at mediacurrent dot com

Cheers,
Dave

I'm interested in helping

jacksinn's picture

I'm interested in helping where I can in any phase of the process. I'll be out of town on October 8th, unfortunately, but can otherwise help where needed. Feel free to contact me here on d.o or via email at scjackson at linux dot com.

Up for Volunteering

Antilles128's picture

Hey Dave,

I live in Athens, but I'd like to step up and volunteer.

Let me know what I can do to help, but preferably things that don't require me to drive to Atlanta all that frequently.

Moving to Atlanta soon

Very interested in being a part of this, let me know how I can help. Sent an email directly, let me know if that didn't arrive.

thanks

Thanks for the prompt feedback - the one big conflict looks like Yom Kippur/Jewish holiday is on the 8th.

The back-up date would be Saturday, October 1st.

Alternative programming

grape's picture

Programming on Friday or Sunday could offset the Yom Kippur/Sabbath concern to the greatest extent possible, and would probably serve a much wider audience even if it were to fall outside of the scope of the main event. I don't think it would be hard to pull together a couple of casual "around town" meetups on Friday or Sunday.

Awesome!

I live in Middle Georgia, 2 hours south of ATL, so I'd be willing to help from a distance as I can.

I know of no conflicts with October 8. I would love to see DCATL expand to a multi-day event, a Friday & Saturday would be awesome.

How can I help?

Hey, I live in Brookhaven and would like to help! Oct 8 sounds great!

If you need someone local. . .

I'm in Kennesaw, I'm going to send off a personal email but I'm really excited to see what we can do!

I think it's certainly a good

I think it's certainly a good idea to avoid major religious holidays where possible. Yom Kippur is one of the most important holidays on the Jewish calendar and to plan an event on that date is a bit exclusionary. It would be similar to planning an event on Easter or Christmas.

October 1st?

Mediacurrent's picture

In lieu of the Jewish holiday, lets look at October 1st as a date for Drupalcamp Atlanta - does anyone see conflicts with the 1st? We did confirm and the venue (Georgia Tech) we had last year is available on the 1st.

Another idea was to have a Drupal Business Summit and paid Drupal training classes the day before Drupalcamp Atlanta. The Business Summits would be akin to what Acquia has been doing in other cities http://revolution2010.acquia.com/ I really think it would be a great way to evangelize Drupal in our region. The target audience would be those involved in the CMS evaluation process within an organization.

Thanks to those who have expressed interest in volunteering (both here and via email) - I have started to compile a list and will be in touch the next few weeks.

Cheers,
Dave

Pls remove from local organizers group

laken's picture

Hi, I'm not in your region but I'm subscribed to email updates in the local organizers group. So I get every comment reply on this thread in my inbox. Now that you're started, could you remove it from the local organizer's group (and any other global groups) so only people who are interested get the updates?

Many thanks, and good luck with the event!

Thank You

grape's picture

That is a thoughtful and considerate decision.

Sounds good for me. One thing

Antilles128's picture

Sounds good for me.

One thing I'd like to suggest we talk about or publicize is the Open Public project, which I think would be of great benefit to some of the government and municipal organizations that might attend.

your request to be removed...

Mediacurrent's picture

@laken - while I appreciate you not wanting your inbox to get inundated with notifications (I have the same problem as a subscriber to multiple groups), I purposely included the local organizer group and surrounding state groups to Georgia. This was out of respect to not wanting our date to overlap with another planned event. As you can see we still do not have a date finalized and discussion is ongoing.

Cheers,
Dave

Drupalcamp Atlanta 2011 (dates are now set)

Mediacurrent's picture

All,
Here is where we are with Drupalcamp Atlanta 2011:

  • Dates are set for Friday, Sept. 30th and Saturday, Oct. 1st, 2011

  • We have reserved the same venue as last year for Saturday (Georgia Tech Research Institute).

  • We are exploring options for the pre-camp events on Friday, but for convenience sake primarily looking next to GTRI. Our requirements for Friday include 3-4 meeting rooms (up to 50 people) and another open floor-plan room for the Business Summit (up to 100 people). If anyone has connections with Georgia Tech and could help reserve space please let me know.

  • The Friday event is tentatively going to be paid Drupal training options (all-day) by various service providers + a 1/2 day business summit that will be a combination of networking and a keynote-type session.

  • For those outside of Atlanta, everything will be posted on the Drupalcamp Atlanta website, which we will target to complete 2-3 months ahead of the camp - session submissions, sponsor info, etc. will be accessible there.

  • A few have asked me about last year's session videos - you can view by going to the DCA 2010 Session Page http://drupalcampatlanta.com/sessions and clicking on the title of the presentation that interests you. They are also hosted on Vimeo.

We will make some additional announcements at the next ADUG meet-up on Tuesday, April 12th and then start more formal committee meetings.

Cheers,

Dave

Hello,

If you are a designer or work for an agency we could use some creative help for Drupalcamp Atlanta 2011.

We are targeting to have the web site launched by 8/1/11 to give plenty of lead time for registering, so you should have capacity between now and then. We can discuss the scope in more detail, but 10 - 20 total hours is a rough estimate of what the time commitment would be. We are looking for help with such things as a new logo, t-shirt design, marketing collateral, signage, etc. - being able to help with theming would be a plus but not a must.

This would primarily be Drupal community goodwill, but we can offer a sponsorship package and some solid exposure for you or your firm in return.

If interested, please reach out to me via email - dave dot terry at mediacurrent dot com

Thanks,

Dave

DCA Design Update

Mediacurrent's picture

A major thank you goes out to all those who got in touch - Top Notch Themes and Sheena Donnely have agreed to lead the design efforts for Drupalcamp Atlanta 2011. Sheena will be in touch to mobilize resources and coordinate next steps - at this time, we are covered on the design front.

Cheers, Dave

Has a date been set now?

jponch's picture

It appears based upon the email from the group thread that October 1st has been set as the date, is this correct?

Date confirmation

Mediacurrent's picture

Hi Jared - yes, Saturday, October 1st is the official date for Drupalcamp Atlanta 2011; Friday, Sept 30th will be for the business folks evaluating Drupal (similar to what Drupalcon London is doing http://london2011.drupal.org/conference/drupal-evaluators-day).

Thanks, Dave

Registration questions

jaalos's picture

Hello, I heard about this from a friend of mine whos been to a some of your camps and suggested that I attend this one. I was wondering when registration would be made avilable and what the cost would be. I was also wondering if this would be good for someone who is fairly new to drupal.

Thanks a lot,

Jaalos
