Field permissions by role

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I would need to be able to set which roles can view / change a custom field I created with CCK. I tried CCK Field Permissions, but it didn't work for me at all, see this: http://drupal.org/node/295675

Any tips how to do this?

It sounds like the module is actually doing what you wanted it to do. Are you asking if there are alternatives to CCK Field Permissions or how to fix the problem described at #295675? (If the latter, try rebuilding your node permissions.)
