Start:

Event type:
User group meeting

Over pizza an fried Oreos (don't ask) at Spinelli's, we decided to try for a regular meetup of local Drupal users, developers, and business owners / managers. We'll aim for the first Wednesday of each month but will leave options open to adjust the date / time as necessary.

For the first regular meeting, I'm inviting everyone to chez moi (a.k.a. Top Porch) for desserts, drinks, and Drupal. Proposed meetup time is 7 PM - 9 PM, but we can start later if it helps folks get off work, get dinner, and make the drive. Additionally, two hours isn't a hard limit or a required minimum. Feel free to come by for any part of the time you can, and feel free to hang out later if there's still more to talk about. : )

Oh... and bring a friend!

Cool! This would be great. I work nights during the week, but might be able to change my schedule once for this. Saturdays are much better for me, though; just sayin'.

Ok, cool. We'll stick with

Ok, cool. We'll stick with the date for this first one, but I also heard from another guy who will have a night class till 9 PM that night. It may be we end up alternating a weekday vs. a weekend or something to give more folks a chance to attend. We'll see. : )

Sounds good...

My schedule is flexible, if anything changes let me know.

Thursday Perhaps

We hold Cincinnati's user group meetup on first wednesday of every month. What would you think about possibly rescheduling your to either the second wednesday or perhaps another day of the week. I made a few phone calls to the members, and a handful of us would be willing to make the trek regularly.

Ahh, interesting. It could

Ahh, interesting. It could totally happen. I think we'll stick with the initial date just b/c of how soon it is and other conflicting schedules (I'll be in DrupalCamp CO, for example), but I'll make sure to bring it up.

I'll be late

thatoneguy's picture

I just realized that I have an operational meeting downtown for a regional festival that same evening which starts at 7:30p, which means I'm already off work but will definitely be late. Luckily, our ops meetings are usually short and to the point and chez toi is on my way home.

sounds good

Cool. Good luck with everything!

Meeting topics / overview

miller.t.chris@gmail.com's picture

Shall we come up with a few topics to discuss, or at least outline a few goals we would like to achieve with this group?

I thought about it in the

rszrama's picture

I thought about it in the original post but wasn't really sure if we'd need it or not. It may be another night introductions and general banter is called for, but I'm totally game for setting people up to introduce topics / modules / etc.

Everyone should know what I'm into already. : P I'm always happy to discuss any Commerce issue, whether it's code, community, documentation, etc. I may also be able to demo Pantheon depending on if I get migrated soon enough. I can post back if that's the case.

For the future, this is what

jazzdrive3's picture

For the future, this is what I'd like to see covered eventually:

  • Entity API
  • Rules 2 Integration

I've gotten basic custom events, conditions, and actions to work for the User Referral, but haven't even touched the surface of what's possible.

Sounds good

Is that the same site that posted a request for help with Ubercart? Well, now that I know Commerce is local, I might have to convert myself. I'm not too happy with Ubercart on Drupal 7, at the moment.

Say what?

GRawlings's picture

sorry - its late and I'm half shit faced. What do you mean?

The site you mentioned, saw

thatoneguy's picture

The site you mentioned, saw another post in this group asking for help from Ubercart. Was wondering if you set them up on Commerce instead.

No, not me, thank God!

GRawlings's picture

I'm fortunate to have one of the best Drupal developers anywhere on my team and there's nothing he can't do...bet you've heard that before:)
But when you get that many products that have to be updated daily, it makes it pretty touchy. Do you have experience with large quantity data like this? If so we could really use some feedback/input/paid support/whatever.
I'm not a developer anymore (used to be but if ya don't use it, ya lose it) and I'm going to have at least one of my guys at the meeting next week. I'll look forward to meeting you and introducing my guys.

I guess it depends on your

thatoneguy's picture

I guess it depends on your definition of 'large quantity data'. I'm not well-versed in e-commerce, yet, but am certainly willing and able to learn. I just happened to get stuck testing/building the online store for a non-profit.

Last guy left at midnight. ;

Last guy left at midnight. ; ) So we had a good time meeting w/ the Centogram team from Cincinnati, and Kevin came down from Web Easy Media in Indianapolis. Other than them, Chris was the only guy from Louisville with me. : P

It was fun, though, and definitely something to get together again! We didn't actually discuss future meeting times, but we'll kick it around in here.

Wish I could have been there

Guys,

I heard the meeting went well. I will be at the next one as soon as a date and time is set, lord willing. Earlier in the afternoon would be great, such as 6pm EST? Late meetings are only good for me on weekends and Fridays.

So are there meeting minutes I can look at?

Minutes

This meeting was mostly introductions, no meeting minutes. We discussed our experience and skill sets. As the meetings progress, we will have more structure and meaning to them.

Next meeting

We really need to keep this thing going. There's so much ignorance floating around out there. One of my clients came to me this morning scared to death. She said one of the other developers she chose us over told her that Drupal was too much to use on her website. He said it was so complicated she'd never be able to use it. Im not kidding! I told her the only reason the guy said that was because he was incapable of developing a website in Drupal, that it was too complicated for him. Not for you!
A stronger Drupal community here in Louisville will benefit all of us. I can host a meeting at my office. Got a nice conference room with a/c, comfy chairs, all the coffee we can swill :) Im on US 42 (Brownsboro Road just north of the Watterson) and we can have it here anytime, night or day. G

Granted, I'm far from the

thatoneguy's picture

Granted, I'm far from the best PHP developer. But understanding some fundamentals, and having read the available documentation, even I have no trepidation about coding Drupal themes and modules. For me, it's simply a matter of having time to do it. I happened upon Drupal by mere coincidence but find it very flexible and am glad I chose it. I look forward future meetings.

The V-Soft offices are also

The V-Soft offices are also available anytime, so we are not in want of places to meet.
