We held our Broward Drupal monthly meetup on Wednesday, July 13th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
Participants:
Remote (from furthest to closest):
Seattle - Chris Parsons @chillin411
Boca Raton - Mark Stahlbaum @markeytoe
Coral Springs - Jason Graham @polishyourimage
In Person (Fort Lauderdale, Broward County Florida):
Claudio Vera @modulist
Jay Epstein @jeppy64
Howard Winston @hwins
Norman Flech @Stock_S
John Everett @Agile_dot_TV
Carlos Kosloff
Me @hectoriribarne
We continued to have remote users participate in our meetup via Skype (audio communications) and TeamViewer (shared desktop).
I (http://iribarne.com) gave a presentation (slide and audio below) about installing Aegir 1.2 (the initial audio is for Aegir 1.1, but after Aegir 1.2 was released the same night, I verified the scripts in the slides on Aegir 1.2). The presentation includes step-by-step instructions, including all the commands for getting Aegir 1.2 up and running from a base Ubuntu 10.04 LTS install. So if you are looking to get away from shared hosting and making your Drupal site scalable, then you should consider Aegir. The following topics are included in the slides and audio (see link below):
- First steps (pointing your domain name to your server, adding A records, etc.)
- Setting up your FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain name)
- Installing the LAMP stack (with one command)
- Configuring Apache
- Configuring PHP
- Installing Git
- Creating the Aegir user pointing to the Koumbit Aegir repository
- Installing Drush
- Running the Aegir automatic install
- Logging in as the Aegir user and downloading the latest version of Drupal
In addition to the main topic discussed above, we spent the rest of the meetup talking about theming and answering questions from our new members Howard Winston and John Everett. We had three remote participants via Skype and seven in the meeting room (our attendance broke into double digits this month). That is our biggest meetup since we started in April 2010. Let's see if we can keep the momentum going.
