Hello everyone,

I'm having trouble installing Drupal on my laptop with Windows Vista Home Edition. I have tried numerous times to install XAMPP and WAMP and have not had any success. I have also followed instructions I found on the Internet and installed each one of Apache/PHP/MySQL by itself. Is there anyone out there who has successfully installed Apache/PHP/MySQL server under Windows Vista Home Edition?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Katy :-)

Drupal6 is running under Vista Home Edition

I changed back to my first administrative user account (I have two users with admin status on my laptop) and I have now successfully installed XAMP on my laptop. Acquia Drupal has installed and is working fine so far. I guess Vista didn't like it when I tried to install XAMP on another user account.

I searched online and many people had troubles installing XAMP on Vista Home Edition. Any one else have this problem? How did you solve it?

I've had good success with VirtualBox

For Drupally stuff, I use VirtualBox to run an Ubuntu server that is configured w/ the LAMP stack (there is a checkbox option for this during installation). The downside is that some Linux system administration skills are required; the upside is that by the time you have it set up, you'd have learned much about server environments, which will provide an understanding of real-world deployments.

This may be overkill for some, but helps to keep the host OS light. As a bonus, snapshots of the virtual server can be used on other VirtualBox instances (for example, on another machine).
