The Jedi Academy, creating an outpost on planet Khan?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

The Jedi Academy is considered a space for Padawans to learn-by-doing and share knowledge (peer learning). The Kan Academy seems to have exactly what we need. Some people also see links with stackexchange.

The Khan Academy

For those who do not know http://www.khanacademy.org go and check it out right now … no don't read on !
Ok, so if you have seen the video of Khan Academy, you may have noticed many nice tools to stimulate peer learning. Should Jedi Academy just be the Khan Academy? Could we start our activities over there? Personally I like to collaborate with them and not just copy all their functionalities. If we cannot collaborate with them, what can we learn form it?

stackexchange

In a discussion on d.o. about support by Question & Answers (Q&A) a phenomen has appeared. Our current Q&A method is the forums, but http://drupal.stackexchange.com seem to do a much better job at the moment One very active discussion suggest outsourcing d.o. Q&A to stackexchange (see http://drupal.org/node/1236290). At least one similarity can be seen between stackexchange and Kan Academy: badges.

Analysis

To me this confirms my belief that the learning industry has been working on good peer learning processes for ages and that a good Jedi Academy is much like a game. Collecting badges is one feature, but many other exist. Should we explore this game metaphor more? Again other ideas are welcome, but keep it focused to peer learning.

One of ways to colaborate with Khant Academy is making PHP or Drupal videotutorials (actually there are python videotutorials).

If you want to replicate the collecting badges fuctionality in Drupal you can use this module http://drupal.org/project/achievements.
