Happy new year to all. Just over two years ago we started the Jackson Drupal Users Group. So far we have had a handful of meetings, but nothing very successful. I think its time to change that, so in 2009 I think we should all pull together and try to get a Great Jackson group going.
Here are my ideas to get a good group established. I'd like to hear your thoughts, ideas, and snide remarks.
1. Consistency
We need to have a regularly scheduled meeting at a standard location. The Ann arbor group meets on the last Monday of the month, and I'd like to avoid conflicting with their schedule. Any suggestions? I think we should avoid Friday, but aside from that I'm open.
2. Topics
We need some topics, possibly some presentations. There is a lot of Drupaling going on in the Jackson community, I'm sure we could get some great presentations started there.
- The Jackson District library uses Drupal
- Westwinds Church
- The Armory Arts project
- I've heard that Spring Arbor University has been considering Drupal for some internal sites.
- There are two Drupal consulting shops in Jackson, CommerceGuys and Coefficient Media.
3. People
We should all try to bring a new person.
So those are my thoughts/ideas. What do you think?

I am definitely interested
I am definitely interested in getting something together. My current job doesn't allow me to work with Drupal, and I would like to keep current. In general, the middle 3 weekdays would be the best for me, but since it is once a month, I am pretty open. I have no snide remarks at the moment, but I will be sure to share them, if they do.
Mid-week
Mid-week sounds good. What if we aim for the 2nd Tuesday of every month. That would give us some time to get a meeting together this month(the 12th).

I am totally excited to get this thing going... i have been super busy with drupal sites but I would love to get this thing going on a regular basis.

We met at the Hunt Club the last few times and that was ok but they are really picky about opening their extra room for some reason.
Hudson's Classic Grill also has a really great extra room that we can probably meet in. If were are looking to go a little more classy both Darel's Downtown and Bella Notte have rooms that might work.
Place and date
Hudson's sounds pretty good, do you know if they have wifi? If not I have a sprint card we could share, however we will quickly saturate a 3g connection.

Wifi and a room
I called Hudson's and they have Wifi and a separate room that can hold up to 55 people.
I have it reserved on Tuesday, Feburary the 10th starting at 6pm.

Big meeting to start 2009
I have also been looking to schedule a twitter meetup. This might be a good time to start the new year by having general technology meetup in Jackson. Some Drupal people, some twitter people?
