Event type:
Online meeting (eg. IRC meeting)

Scor has been busy traveling over the past two weeks, attending the Schema.org workshop in Mountain View and giving a session on Semantic Web in Drupal at Austin. To let him catch his breath after all that traveling, we're postponing the bi-weekly Linked Data planning session to next week.

During the session, he'll report on what happened at the workshop and he'll relay the feedback from the folks in Austin.

If you are interested, feel free to join the conversation. Just ping me on IRC or through the Contact form and I'll make sure to add you.

Where took these bi-weekly sessions place? In Skype? If so, with text chat or audio? Are there logs/recordings of held sessions?

We usually do Skype, though

We usually do Skype, though my Skype seems to have caught a virus a few days ago, so I have to get that sorted. It's usually audio, we don't record them but we do often post minutes here on the groups page. Feel free to ping me or scor if you want to join :)

ramping up

joebachana's picture

I'd like to participate, although from reading some of the threads on this there's some ramp-up time necessary :-) If listening in is ok for a bit, I'd be happy to do so until I get my arms around what you all are working on and how I might be able to help, -J

Anyone is welcome to listen

scor's picture

Anyone is welcome to listen in, we don't force people to say anything, it's very informal. Once you feel comfortable with the group, you may want to participate in the conversation. We welcome any kind of contribution and feedback during the call. It can be as simple as giving your 2 cents on the usability of a UI or a proposal. We actually like this kind of feedback from outsiders, as we tend to become biased as we work on the semantic web modules. But again, you can join in without a mic.

I'd be of no help, I guess

I'd like to join, but a) I'm no programmer (I come from an information science background), b) I'm not that good in understanding spoken English, especially if it's chatty/live and c) I don't want to use Skype (I don't want to use any proprietary software). But I'll soak up any information you post here and in issues, trying to understand some more of the (technical) background. Maybe I can be of some help in the future.

We need non programmers like you!

a) I'm no programmer

We need non programmers like you! Some of the modules we build are actually targeting non-programmers as a means to enable semantic web technologies on their site, without prerequisites in RDF or coding.

b) I'm not that good in understanding spoken English, especially if it's chatty/live

I'm not a native English speaker either, and Lin is pretty easy to understand (check out her screencasts!).

c) I don't want to use Skype (I don't want to use any proprietary software).

Lin used Skype at the beginning because it was easier to get started, but given that she is having problem with skype now, and what you are saying above, we should move to using a regular telco phone line or SIP. Would that make it easier for you no2e?

a few suggestions on meetup

  1. I have an account with GotoMeeting, so I can set up the call that we can just dial into. It is proprietary SaaS solution though, which may fail the group's needs. I use it for local NYC Drupal meetups and it seems to work well, although a few people do not like that it is a CO

  2. There's an opensource 'web meeting' solution called AnyMeeting. We could use that.

  3. Google hangouts
