Excellent!

I'm excited! I was hoping someone would take the initiative to start this group.

I'll be there

Sounds great, should be a good event. Can we find out how many people will be attending? Will there be any presentations or would that be over-ambitious for this event? THanks.

I'll be there too

My guess is this is more of a get-to-know-each-other event. If not, I'd be glad to show off any of my sites:

Getting to know you...

Yeah, the crew here at Advantage Labs could spout out topics for years - mail, GIS, CRM, statistics and tracking, CCK & views, the list goes on! Don't get us started! Next month, we'd love to do a timely rundown of Drupal 5.0.

But this month, I think it would be nice to just meet informally with other Twin Cities Drupal developers and users. We can make introductions, talk about our past, present and future projects, and set the tone for the meetings ahead.

Thanks!

Sorry I can't make this one

Looking Forward

Although I've belonged to groups.drupal for awhile, I just stumbled across this group by accident. I am looking forward to meeting you all at the event. Next week our company is launching a major commercial website that we've been developing for over a year using Drupal, and I am looking forward to showing it off to y'all (me: proud papa!). So glad I found you people -- James Peters, CEO, Arrow Media, Minneapolis USA

I'll be there too

I will be there too. I participated in the DrupalCon 06 so if you guys have any questions feel free to ask me.

I hope to be there too

This is great news! I've also been wishing that some one would organize a local Drupal group.

Can't make it

Hi everybody -

Sorry to say that I can't make the event, but I'm glad that a Drupal group has been created for the Twin Cities... I'm still learning Drupal, and am always looking for people who can help me out!

Hopefully by the end of the year (only 7 weeks now!) I hope to launch the redesign of the Science Museum's website, which will be run by Drupal. Luckily I had a great intern this summer who worked out all the templates in Drupal, and we've got the expertise of bryan kennedy on staff, so I'm not alone in Drupal!

Check back soon!

I'm definitely gonna try to make it

Sorry - maybe not...

conkhead's picture

So sorry; but it looks like I will now miss the meeting tonight - too much work to tie up before Thanksgiving break. Regardless of how many people show, though, I think we definitely have to do this again. I'm wondering if the impending holiday might have an effect on attendance (i.e., people with the same problem I have). My apologies; I was really looking forward to meeting all of you -- James Touchi-Peters, CEO, Arrow Media, Minneapolis

Won't be able to make it

:( I won't be able to make it. Too much work to be done before the break. I apologize. I really think we should have another meeting perhaps right after the break. Fridays work best for me.

thnx

notes?

Can anyone post what was talked about in tonight's meeting? Thanks!

Excellent Meeting - thanks all for organizing!

For those of you who weren't able to attend, here's a very brief synopsis (based on memory - please reply with corrections / clarifications as needed).

16 people attended and there was a range of Drupal users, developers, hobbyists and might-someday-start-using-Drupalists with a nice range of interests and skill levels.

Allie Micka led the meeting in an informal way and we started with introductions. After intros and discussions about what people were looking for in the group, we proposed, discussed and decided on the near-term future of the group. Some salient points:

  • Meetings will have a topic/theme and there will be a primary presenter responsible for about 30 minutes of presentation time. The remainder of the time will be spent asking/answering questions, discussing, working in small groups, chatting, networking, etc.
  • If you want to see and/or present on a particular topic, please volunteer it.
  • Meetings will run every third Tuesday from 7-9. The next meeting will be December 19th from 7-9 at the same location.
  • The next meeting topic will be something along the lines of "Drupal Modules You Can't Live Without" (my working title - not the official one) - covering features, functionality and configuration that everyone should have in their Drupal toolbox. Allie, Mark and Bobbi from Advantage Labs will be the primary presenters.
  • Strong possible topics for the following months include:
    ** Drupal 5.0 rundown
    ** Project Management in Drupal
** Mail modules and functionality in Drupal

That's the big stuff that I can recall. Thanks again to our organizers and thanks to Advantage Labs for pizza and drinks and stepping up to present next month!

Meetings - video

wdtj's picture

Agreed. I think monthly meetings would be great, and I also extend my thanks to Allie.

I would like to present an idea. Now, before you read it, I should explain, I tend to be an out-of-the-box type thinker. I tend to get some wacky, but occasionally useful ideas. Feel free to tell me what you think, I won't be offended (too much).

I would like to suggest/volunteer that I video tape these meetings for presentation on the web. I've recently done a bit of video documenting on several of my Drupal sites. It's not quite broadcast quality, but it's better than a sharp stick in the eye. I think I have all the equipment (camcorder, microphones, firewire for downloading, video editing software, etc).

My concerns would be:
Will I be interfering with the free flow of information (speakers getting camera shy)?
Will it be useful to others? Will it be worth the effort?

Feel free to add your concerns, ideas, flames, etc to this thread.

Thnx

Hey thnx for posting this! I will try to make it Dec 19th.

Meeting time update

dgorton's picture

At our last meeting, it was decided that the next meeting would be on March 28th. Furthermore, it was observed that that makes for two months running with the meeting on the fourth (and last) Wednesday of the month and that we ought to consider that the new standing date...

So (at least until the next next meeting), please note that we have a new standing date. The place, however, seems well established: the Advantage labs office building (IATP building): http://advantagelabs.com/contact.
