First of all, Howdy. I am a noob. I have been webmastering a Drupal site for my church Live Oak Friends Meeting since sometime in 2010 when I inherited it from the original webmaster. I went to the last users group meeting and enjoyed meeting a few of you. I am a CMS developer in real life for MD Anderson Cancer Center. I am having some difficulty meeting the needs of my users with Drupal.
Having more trouble than i expected in solving a demand from my users. They want a solution which easily allows them to pull up a queue of recent content items (of three different content types) and be able to add any manual additional text and send that off to the site user base as an email newsletter.
I have been messing with Simplenews and just not "getting it" in terms of populating the content of the newsletter.
I attempted to follow this person's outline:

but I installed nodequeue in the usual fashion and I can't see it at all even though it is enabled. I was able to install it on a plain vanilla Drupal site just not the one I am concerned with. Argh!
I wondered if there was a way to do this with PHPList or some other solution.
Uber-experienced Drupal developers and others: what would you do?

Off the top of my head, I don't know how to handle this, but it sounds like a GREAT question for our next meeting, which should be ending just about one week from now, give or take 30 minutes.
Hopefully someone can provide you with an answer before that, but if not, be sure to bring it up then.
