create a facebook event for newly created node

hi all,

we just finished a module that automatically creates a new event on facebook for a given cck content type node. it targets page owners who maintain an event calendar on their page that should be "mirrored" to their facebook fan page.

so far the module allows to be attached to an existing content type that provides at least the necessary fields for a facebook event (date, time, location, image/flyer, name and description), or a newly created content type that comes with the module.

the module depends only on cck, file/image field, date field but does not need any other facebook connect modules. it could easily be altered to post not only on fan pages but also on people profiles. little changes could allow it not only to post events but other kinds of messages that facebook provides.

before contributing the module I'd like to get some feedback on the idea behind it. are there any other modules that already provide that feature? is there a broader need for a module like that?

Like the idea. Just thought about implementing such functionality in one of my sites.

I just found another group issue: http://groups.drupal.org/node/28404 that deals with facebook events.

A good place to start putting your contributing are the drupal sandbox projects.

Yes please, I would love to have a module to do that. About a month ago I spent the best part of a day searching for something to create (cck) events in drupal and have it mirrored on facebook but could only find drupal modules which work in the other direction (facebook first). If there is anything out there then I missed it. So far the best option for me has been to post a link to the drupal event onto the facebook page, it's klutzy. I started looking at the facebook API but then realized that I would never be able to find the time to work through it all.

thanks for your reply. would you be interested in testing/improving the module? the installation currently still needs some manual steps, like importing a proper node type or adjusting an existing type to fit the module's needs (date field, event image, ...). but all other settings can be made in your installations admin section.

the drupal licensing faq states: "It is possible to distribute a module that integrates with a 3rd party PHP or JavaScript library, as long as the library is under either a GPL or GPL-compatible license.".

the module above would require facebook.php and facebook_base.php, both are licensed under Apache License, Version 2.0. the apache license v2.0 is named as one of the gpl-compatible licenses on gnu.org.

could these different licenses lead to any trouble?

I have been looking all over for something like this. Closest I've found is https://github.com/joshperron/Facebook-Events-List-Widget/downloads
