At October's TC Drupal meetup, we decided that too many people would be traveling to Grandma's house on the 4th Wednesday of the month. So, we're moving things up a week and holding our November meeting on the 3rd Wednesday, November 16th from 7-9PM. The friendly Twin Cities Ubercart & E-Commerce group folks who normally meet at this same time in the same room have agreed to merge their meeting with this one.
Topic? A Local Drupal Development Environment Install-Fest. Come get help setting up your laptop to accommodate doing Drupal development. This includes:
- webserver software (the *AMP stack)
- Drupal (core + existing sites or that Drupal distro you've been eyeing)
- code editing software (to edit PHP, HTML, CSS, JS files)
- file and version control (communicating with your live site's hosting environment)
It's all open source and there are several flavors to choose from from all-in-one applications to using your computer's built-in software. If you've ever wanted to get this set up for yourself or help others get their dev on, please join us!
Come for the pizza, shared beverages and Drupal camaraderie.
See you there.

A Local Drupal Development Environment Install is just what I...
A Local Drupal Development Environment Install is just what I needed. I've been putting this off for way too long -- and Rohn has been promising to set it up for me for a while, so he'll be so relieved that it's off his to-do list, too. I am super excited about the meeting.
I'll bring root beer.

Apologies for being a no-show. Mechanical problems. I really hate my car.

Notes!
Autumn Patterson took fabulous notes from our session last night -- see attached PDF. Thanks, Autumn! We had a great discussion which resulted in a colorful whiteboard. Autumn's notes capture the ideas and resources we talked about. So, if you couldn't make it or want a permanent reminder of the Tools, Terms and Benefits of setting up a local development environment designed to work with Drupal, check out the attached PDF.

Sorry I missed out
I had been looking forward to the discussion, but was ill yesterday.
Thanks for the notes, Autumn.
Don't know if the conversation got 'round to debugging. Quickstart (a VM solution mentioned last night) sets up all the moving parts required for debugging (using XDebug with either Eclipse or Netbeans). I've rolled my own similar setup on Linux with Eclipse PDT and ZendEngine's Debugger extension, thus avoiding the VM performance hit. Glad to share my experience if anyone needs help.

Just uploaded the whiteboard notes too
Thanks everyone for coming! This was a lively dialog, and I hope that everyone learned and/or installed something :)
