Want to add a couple additional tools to the list.
http://theforeman.org/ It's really powerful and acts as a glue between Puppet, DNS, DHCP, TFTP, PXE and others to allow full automation of the provisioning process. In addition it acts as an ENC for puppet (central metadata repository for Puppet allowing programatic introspection into puppet data), and a Puppet dashboard, allowing easy monitoring of puppet status and puppet reports. (Please note one can use Foreman without the provisioning bits.) Please also note that RedHat has replaced cobbler with Foreman in the newest version of their Satellite product. http://www.redhat.com/summit/2011/presentations/summit/whats_next/thursd...
In addition some sort of monitoring server is pretty mandatory. We use Nagios.

Didn't know that cobbler was being dropped. I tried the Satellite product and our vulnerability scanner went gangbusters!!! Nagios is a familiar tool-I would like to try Icinga but haven't had reason to as of yet.
I currently using LDAP for node definitions for Puppet. Is that what you mean by ENC?

Cobbler the project is still alive and well, it's just no longer going to be part of Satellite. Personally, I think for those shops that use Puppet and need provisioning, Foreman is certainly going to have better integration with Puppet.
Working in a new monitoring framework, even if it is based on Nagios, is work I just can't justify funding especially since we have Nagios deployment fully automated through puppet. (new nodes automatically get configured in nagios based on their puppet classes.) That said, I would like to play with Icinga and see how it compares, and see if it is worth putting on the longterm roadmap.
Yes, that's what I mean by an ENC. Historically LDAP was one of the few viable options, but more and more dedicated ENCs are becoming the way to go. Puppet Dashboard from Puppetlabs and Foreman are the two leading ENCs. Currently Foreman is ahead in features, but on the flip side, Dashboard is the "official" Puppetlabs ENC.
