So-- in the process of getting our Media Temple hosted sites upgraded to PHP 5.2, I'm trying to figure out if we're buying way more service than we require.
If you're familiar with Media Temple, they have different tiers of service, we have the $50 a month DV (Dedicated Virtual) 3.0 service and I'm wondering why we aren't on the $20 a month GS (Grid Server). To upgrade to the current versions of PHP, we have to migrate their DV 4.0. If I'm going to migrate our 2 domains, with two separate drupal installs, It seems like a good time to reconsider and maybe cut costs. Our stats average about 10 gigs a month, in and out. We're no where near close on our limits. I wasn't around when it was decided to get the DV level and no on remembers why we did. It seems better suited to a web developer who is also hosting sites and reselling hosting, or a much larger site than ours. There's a chance we might add one more domain in the future. We do host videos on our site, and will likely do more of that.
We do have trouble with our email hitting it's memory limits which also makes no sense, and I've only just started investigating that. We only have a bout two dozen email addresses. It appears that we rarely have more than 6 people accessing the site at anyone time.
I do want to add more capabilities, specifically Moodle or some other education classroom services in the future. But we are quite small and will be that way for awhile. Still talking about tens of users accessing at any one time.
I'm anticipating the errors in Drupal 6 will go away when I upgrade from PHP 4.3 to 5.2, but I just think we're paying for way more than we need.
So if anyone has a deeper understanding of Media Temple hosting, or maybe a suggestion of where we should be, I'd appreciate it!

Drupal is known to be a bit resource intensive, so that is likely why you are currently on a (dv) Dedicated-Virtual Server and should probably stay on one. While you may not be using all of the bandwidth, you are probably benefiting from dedicated resources as opposed to the (gs) Grid-Service which shares resources. Moving to the 4.0 will help in many ways. It is faster & utilizes resources more efficiently.

We seem to have made the DV3 to DV4 migration successfully overall, only two calls to Support needed, and the drupal 6.22 sites seem to be running properly and much better with the updated PHP and MYSQL on DV4.0, though we had some ftp issues that also seem to be now resolved. Thanks for monitoring these forums for drupal concerns on Media Temple. Further web research turned up what you say, that CMS's like Drupal can run better on a dedicated service.
