Transition Edinburgh South uses Drupal 7

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Hello everybody. I'm Sarah and part of Transition Edinburgh South.

For those interested, http://www.transitionedinburghsouth.org.uk uses Drupal 7.

I wrote most of the copy for it, and was on the team that developed the website. The project was interesting because it consisted entirely of people from the community.

We also used Open Atrium to coordinate the efforts. You can see me blogging about Open Atrium vs Face book

They are currently looking to train up a volunteer to take over administrating the website. A lot of care was taken to build the website with as little custom code as possible, so somebody who is very new to drupal can find their way around the website. Drupal 7 is much better in that respect than Drupal 6. The learning curve for Drupal is still a barrier for Transition projects to get the most out of drupal websites. If the group relies to much on a 'drupal guru' then it can cause problems when that person moves away or becomes too busy. So int terms of resilience and community ownership, it's important that a motivated volunteer could pick up enough drupal skills to take over the website.

Also in terms of having "one package" to fit them all, I think it might depend on at which stage the Transition Group is. Early groups need to have lots of open discussions, and older group might need to focus more on getting projects done.
