A lot has happened since I wrote the last state of NodeStream, so it's time for a quick overview.

NodeStream 2.0 alpha 4

We released a new alpha. It contains a lot of module upgrades, and it also contains a some significant architectural changes:

Fields and variables are not part of features
We removed fields and variables from NodeStream to make it easier for site builders to change the configuration of them. This makes it possible to add fields and variables to your own features, overriding the default configuration. This flexibility is necessary since you often have a need to change these kinds of settings, and field definitions might change if you do something as simple as enabling a module defining more settings for fields. In order to make this more stable, we decided to not use features for this task. Fields and variables are still installed as you would expect when you enable a NodeStream feature, so there is no change from an end-user point of view.

Media upgrade
We upgraded to the latest version of the media and file entity modules. While doing so we also changed all media fields into file fields in order to avoid having to rely on the deprecated media fields for the rest of the NodeStream 2 life cycle. An upgrade path is provided that changes all the existing media fields in NodeStream core and there are api functions for doing so with your own features if you need to do it for extensions on top of NodeStream.

The styles module is no longer part of NodeStream
We decided to ditch the Styles module since file entity can do most of the things you want to do. If you need to add more view modes you can use something like the Entity View modes module or Display suite.

There were a couple of other small changes. See the release notes for more information.

NodeStream 1.1

We finally released an upgrade for NodeStream 1. It contains module upgrades and hopefully issues with PHP 5.3 are sorted out. You can find info about the release here

Pre-packaged versions of NodeStream

We have updated nodestream.org with prepackaged releases of both NodeStream 2 and 1. Get them from there if you don't want to build yourself.

Going forward...

We will work on replacing all references with Entity reference and separate all Products into their own projects. For more details see Release roadmap.
