Ottawa April Meetup | Theme: Accessibility with Drupal

NOTE: Topics for April/May have been switched (sorry)

Thanks again to RealDecoy for continuing to host these Drupal meetups. RealDecoy is at 1-205 Catherine Street, which is one address East of Bank on Catherine (right behind the Galaxy Photo building). The entrance is at the side of the building (not the main entrance unfortunately). Just come down the stairs and ring the doorbell and someone will come and let you in.

Please signup for the event, if we can get a decent number of people we can probably move to the basement of the Clocktower.

The theme for this meetup will be Accessibility and Drupal. There were two good Birds of a Feather sessions at DrupalCon on Accessibility, and a number of issues that need to be resolved in the issue queue for September so that we can have them in Drupal 7 core.

Accessibility is important for Government as it is the hardest part of the CLF requirements. It's going to become law in Ontario fairly soon, and there will be implications from that legislation that may affect affect all of us. With millions of potential consumers with visual impairments, nobody wants to get in the way of anyone accessing your site.

That being said, the changes that are required are more than just adding alt tags to your theme, and some of the assumptions will require key changes in Drupal Core and long term changes to educate content editors.
