It would seem that some people may have begun looking in to this. Does anyone have any current research on this? It would also be worthwhile talking about your requirements here too, to ensure we cover what everybody needs.

Well this is more or less
Well this is more or less already a well used feature of views, not sure whether there is "research" required.
Sure it would help to provide a better start for people to provide some views query plugins.
