We released a new version of NodeStream last week, 2.0-alpha5. It contains a lot of bug fixes, but most importantly, it makes the relation to contributors optional, which is good for sites that don't require advanced author management. We are still suffering from this bug though.
Release management
In order to be able to deliver module updates faster, we are going to try to have a more frequent release schedule. We have tried to add significant improvements with each release before, but it is far more important to keep our set of modules up to date, so we are going to try to focus on earlier releases. We will try to publish a new release every second week, and we will create a new branch that contains bigger changes that needs a bit more work.
The week to come
We are still struggling with our Entity reference migration. There is a patch that does the work, but we still need to do a bit of work with the upgrade path and there are also some issues with entity reference itself that needs to be resolved before we do the switch. This switch also means that some work is required for site builders using NodeStream, so we need to make sure that there is documentation for how to best upgrade your features to use the new fields. This is hopefully one of the last big changes we have to do before we can freeze our underlying platform.
We are also working with other interesting things like Removing unnecessary features and generalizing our features so that they will be usable in more contexts.
Overall picture
I think we are getting real close to a very good foundation for building distributions on, and we are closing in on a beta release pretty soon. Once that happens, we will switch our focus to improving the quality of our own code and the modules we are using. We also need to write a lot of tests, both for the functionality in NodeStream and for the functionality in the contributed modules we created as part of the NodeStream project. Interesting times ahead!
