Since implementing Drupal on our library website, I've spoken to a number of library Drupal programmers and seen many implementations of Drupal for library websites. Many of the implementations do the same things as one another but in different ways, which can cause module clashes and frustration for new Drupal users trying to maintain newly-transformed library websites. While all of these sites have needs unique to them, they also all have some basic needs in common that are unique to library sites. At DrupalCon DC, a discussion came up which, per Cary's helpful direction, I'm bringing in here to hear thoughts/opinions, ideas: What about creating a Libraries Distro of Drupal? Similar to the D5 DrupalEd but for libraries. This would basically be, as Cary put it, "a base set of modules that almost every library big and small will need." Some obvious needs that could be addressed include things like calendaring, wikis, a way to display new materials, etc. Cary also mentioned setting up a best practices base install profile with roles and content types.

Were doing it
Hi Kate
Were actually trying to do this in Denmark. Were setting up a generic theme and modules which everybody can use.
It started as a collaboration between Copenhagen Libraries and Århus Public Libraries and have developed into a Drupal CMS project and data warehouse based on Apache Lucene/Fedora Commons/Compass/SOLR which is integrated into Drupal.
All of this will hopefully be the starting point of a danish state wide collaboration :-)
Everything will be published as Open Source in a community with Issue Tracker, Code Repository, Documentation WIKI. I do not know which parts will be in danish, but the code will definitely be in english.
We are just changing the project name, so if anybody is interested I will post the domainnames were you can follow the project, when the name transformation is complete.
We just started on Drupal with a designer, theming dude, Drupal installation and configuration guy and hopefully another will join in a short while. We have concentrated out efforts until now on getting the data warehouse started and running and now its finally time for presentation :-)
I'd love to see how the project is going...
Please post URLs for the Danish project!

Not everything is in english but the site with a weekly status and all the code is. There is a page called "the process" were you can find links to github, issue tracker, wireframes, design, plugins etc. etc.
There is a heap of information. Sorry for the delay, we had to change domains and rewrite some of the information. Documentation takes time, but is is worth the effort in the end :-)
Danish libraries using Drupal..
hi there,
I know of two Danish libraries which successfully has implemented Drupal as CMS/Community engine:

not sure if this is what you
not sure if this is what you are looking for but http://www.extensiblecatalog.org/ seems like a cool project for libraries.
"user-centered, next generation software for libraries. It comprises four software components that can be used independently to address a particular need or combined to provide an end-to-end discovery system to connect library users with resources."
