Many Thanks to all those who made it to the meetup yesterday. As a quick follow up note, since we did not have an internet connection I could not at the time show people what a more polished photo gallery would look like. http://www.varunbaker.com is a good example of a site built with the technique I demoed at the meetup using cck and views.
We decided to continue having meet-ups on an as needed basis, which at the moment sounds very much needed as the support and enthusiasm was great. In fact, perhaps we can look forward to doing it again in a months time? This time we'll have an agenda more geared at the topics we want to discuss. If there is a lot of interest in particular areas then we can always form subgroups at these meetups so that we can all get what we want out of them(eg. developers might want to discuss abc, while themers/designers have a separate discussion going). End users may even be interested in learning more about using Drupal as well.
So far we brought up the following points of discussion, I believe others probably have further comments to share on them:
- Best practices, choosing modules and safe upgrade paths
- Theming - there's a clear need for local themers (All HTML/CSS people who want to learn Drupal theming are welcome)
- Contributing an ubercart module specific to Jamaica
mpeart I remember you had the good sense to take note of what people were interested in for discussion and next presentation topics. Do you think you could post those here? Any one with ideas/suggestions for the next presentation(s) please also post them here.

Beginners DVD
Hi bluecopper,
No problem if you missed the last meetup. You can always catch the next one. If you want to get a handle on Drupal from a non web developer point of view, there is a good DVD that is produced by lullabot. It's called "Understanding Drupal" and will help to clarify many Drupal concepts. It is on sale here: http://store.lullabot.com/products/understanding-drupal . I should also have a copy which I'll bring to the next meetup. I think this DVD can help to bring people up to speed in terms of understanding Drupal. I'm all for a "beginners" section at the next meetup. Maybe we can do usual introductions/presentations and then break up into a "beginners" group for those who want to watch the dvd and another group for other ongoing discussions.

Thanks
Thanks for organising the meetup varunity. I think a months time would be good for another meetup - we could focus on a particular topic, hopefully in such a way that a newcomer to drupal wont be left out but that still will be useful to people who are experienced with drupal.
Thanks
I also appreciated the meet-up and glad to see something get started. I am all for another one in a month or so.
Notes from first Meetup
Hi Varunity here are the notes that NSJ made and the topics persons wanted to discuss.
We should use this forum to develop a list of persons who develop using Drupal.
Work together on a website for the group
This group could lead to possible contracts and sub contracts and can be used to bounce ideas and questions off of each other perhaps even set up a consultancy.
Topics of interest that persons would like discussed are:-
E-commerce
Theming
Multi-Site
Developing on a testing server and migrating to a production server
That was it...if I missed anything feel free to add it.

Meetup time
OK, are people ready for the next meetup? Maybe we can settle on a good time within the next week or two to do it. I'll bring the "Understanding Drupal" DVD for all those who are interested in an introductory overview of Drupal. Perhaps while some watch the DVD we can have a walk through of setting up/configuring Ubercart(E-commerce) for the more advanced develpers. Does anyone feel like doing this presentation? Any other suggestions?

The meeting went well. I think you would have benefited the most from it as we watched about an hour of the said dvd. There was also some talk of deciding on a keeping the next meetup on a Saturday, I will post a poll to give us all the power to decide on this. We can also look forward to an exciting new presentation.
