How to reduce the number of columns in Omega theme

Hello dear friends,
The Omega theme has 12 columns by default. I would like to know if it is possible to reduce this number to 10 columns. I know I can use some functions to leave certain columns empty, but I'd rather start with a 10 columns theme. If I fill 10 columns and leave 2 columns empty, the content won't be centered on the page. Furthermore, If I use a different body background color, for instance blue, the 2 empty columns will be white, and not blue as I would like them to be. Your help on this would be very much appreciated. Thank you all for your time.

johnny, have you tried using

johnny, have you tried using the prefix and suffix settings for your regions? This will allow you to center your 10 columns while leaving a single column on each side empty. You can also set the background colors at the body, section, zone, or region level to suit your design. Although I'm not sure why you'd want to go to all the effort, or change it at the code level to a 10 column layout, when the predefined 12, 16 and 24 column grids are well suited for almost any layout.

thanks

Thanks adaptordie for your reply. I will follow your advice and stick to the 12 column grid.

It's probably a good idea

It's probably a good idea going with 12. If you used 10 with a prefix and suffix, they would have to be set on every zone to make the whole page uniform and would be a right pain!

Sam.

You can also create any

You can also create any custom grid you'd like. There's a tutorial in the wiki that helps explain the process. You could use that to create a custom 10 grid system, just takes a little extra coding etc. to make it happen.
