Site Setup Question

I am in the midst of developing a site right now where I am having a tough time trying to configure everything correctly. I am running D7, and while I would prefer to find a workable module, I do know PHP and MySQL and can get my hands dirty if need be. Here is what I need to do:

-When a user logs in, redirect them to an appropriate landing page.

  • Have content that is restricted to only logged in users, as well as certain user types. I tried a couple of modules such as Content Access (beta), ACL, and Taxonomy Access Control, but I couldn't get any of them to work. I already created the user types.

  • I granted some of the users the ability to add their own pages, posts, etc. but I can't figure out how to give them some form of access to the proper editing page. Also, is it possible to give them some kind of overlay bar like the admins have?

I am still relatively new to Drupal, so references to clean and workable modules or code are appreciated.

Hi Jeremy,

Try the "Login Destination" module to redirect on login. LoginToboggan would probably do the trick as well, but if all you want is a simple redirect on login/logout, the former is easier.

For the access issues, it looks like you need to take a good look at the permissions settings (People -> Permissions tab). You can set access by content type there under the node settings. This page is also where you can turn on the administrator overlay for other types of users ("access overlay" permission).

You should probably go through the whole list carefully to see if there's anything else there you want to adjust.

If you need more granular control over content (i.e., by taxonomy instead of content type), we're using the Workbench and Workbench Access modules with a lot of success. (We also use the Workbench Moderation module to force a simple workflow.)

Hope this helps!
