I will graduate from Cardiff University with a BSc Computer Science degree in a little over a month. I've been building sites with Drupal 6 since last year following a brief foray into Mambo for a couple of contracts.

Considering how larger businesses are trying to cut back on expenditure, what are the chances of there being a good job for me? Maybe there's a job out there in an outfit targeting companies taking advantage of others' bad luck... Does anyone know of a suitable job, or have any tips they might be able to offer to me or other Drupalers in a similar position?

My experience/skillset is:
Java 6 + JOGL (OpenGL bindings for Java)
XHTML/CSS to W3C standards with bad-browser considerations.
PHP5
some ASP.NET experience
limited experience with: C/C++, Smalltalk
Oracle & MySQL
CMS/Forum conversion using reverse engineering.
Photoshop, InkScape etc.

I am eager to extend this list with a company which will support me to do so. Learning targets for the next 12 months include JQuery and one of {Python, Ruby, Haskell}.

I'm looking for a full time job in the South Wales or Bristol/Gloucs/North Somerset areas.

I think there's a pretty good chance. There are tons of opportunities - it's just being clued in to where to look.

Check out CardiffWebScene.com, you'll probably find a bunch of suitable positions there posted by various companies. BoxUK, Creo Interactive, Imaginet are a few "web" companies locally that spring to mind. You'll probably want to get a portfolio together if you're after web work though...
