Drupal Meetup KC

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

The time has come to create a Drupal community in Kansas City. As far as I can tell KC is lacking. If I am wrong enlighten me and point me in the direction of the next meetup.

I propose that we meet at least once a month just to get together and talk about projects, goals, software, web standards, anything having to do with web development or design in Drupal.

Many people have no idea what Drupal is or simply understand that its a CMS (content management system). TwentyPixel would like to give you the opportunity to find out if Drupal is right for you. Drupal has changed my life and I want to give others the chance to be wowed. I used to be very against things like Drupal, Wordpress, Joomla, etc. I just thought "if you want to do it right, do it yourself". Now it's... "Want to do it right? Do it with DRUPAL!"

This first session is a meet and greet to find out if you want to be a part of the Drupal Community in KC. Have you heard of Drupal but don't know how it works or why its so great? Are you preparing to use a Drupal site created for you by a website developer? Are you a website developer (or want to be one) that has worked with a online CMS other than Drupal and are considering expanding to work with Drupal? Are you a designer looking for developers to turn your designs into hot websites? Then this two hour meetup is for you.

I need to get an idea of the interest in Drupal training within Kansas City. If things work out as expected I would like to offer monthly intro to Drupal classes, weekly lab hours, free workshops on specific topics, and paid training (one on one and classroom). The paid training is last on the list as making money is not the goal. The goal is to create a strong Drupal community in KC that we can all benefit from. By teaching Drupal I think it will strengthen its effectiveness, create better websites, and give one man (or woman) shops the ability to compete with the big dogs.

What I need from you at this point are the following questions answered and sent to nick@twentypixel.com

Your Full Name.
Your Email Address.
Your Phone Number.
Web Development Experience.
Best times and days for a weekly or monthly meetup (free, lightly structured)
Do you have a suggestion for a location to hold the meetups? I have places for the classes but the meetups would be nice to have at a bar or coffee shop that has wireless access.
Are you interested in FREE classes, PAID classes, or just the meetups?
Have you used Drupal before and if so please provide details?

I want to get an intro class going as soon as next week. If I don't get enough responses this week then very early JULY will be the first meetup.

Just so you know

The above is part of an email I sent out to many local people. Of course, most of you who are members of the drupal.org group already know what drupal is, have worked with it, etc. But I am sending people here that have no idea, so cut me some slack.

Thanks for suggesting this Nick. I am the manager of the group but for various reasons haven't been able to get anything started.

Looking forward to getting to know others in the Kansas City area.

Has there been any progress

I am new to Drupal and would like to find out about any training, user groups, etc. I'll even assist in getting a user group started and assisting in the scheduling and details of the meeting.
