July 2009 Meeting

I don't have anything formal in the works, but RockSoup (aka Jared) is coming up for a visit and has a very cool sounding Drupal community thing he'd like to discuss. Here's a teaser (I've paraphrased a little):

I am planning a Drupal Event in late October here in Seattle more like a regional DrupalCon than a DrupalCamp. The focus will be more on folks already in the "Drupal Ecosystem", people who spend much of their time designing, configuring and engineering Drupal. We will not have a focus on the "beginner" track as we have had in the past.

Let's all get together to hear what he has to say and catch up on all the local Drupal gossip that's fit to discuss.

Date: Thursday July 23, 6:30pm
Location: The Irish Heather, 210 Carrall Street in Gastown. [Map]
Cost: What ever you eat and drink.

Jared has some flexibility in his schedule, if Thursday July 30th works better for more people please speak up quickly and we can move the day. Likewise, if someone has an alternative location they think will work better than the Heather, please speak up. Is there a Gastown restaurant with a large dining area that might work? What's the Cambie like at 6:30?

i would imagine the 30th is probably pretty sketchy due to the long weekend - i'll do my best to make it either way - alibi room is another option for a larger group

According to http://vancouvertweetup.com/thurs-july-23-heather-nancy-zimmerman/ the Vancouver Twitter users are planning a meetup at the Heather for 7:30 on the 23rd. I'm not saying it's necessarily a conflict. Maybe one can lead into the other?

Right, I was thinking of dropping in on that, for some reason I thought it was the following Thursday. I agree, it's not necessarily a conflict.

In light of the long weekend keeping the 23rd sounds best.

Regarding venue, I just spoke with the Alibi Room. Reservations for a group would be best, so I'd need a rough idea of how many people might be interested. We wouldn't have to actually reserve till the morning of.

I think either location would work fine but I'm not familiar enough to know if one might be a better choice for 6:30. Opinions?

I'm in. The Heather would work better for me if it's happening before the tweetup, since I was already planning on at least saying hi. Plus, I won't have to finish my drink and run!

I'm not sure how many people might attend this but as Ariane said the Alibi Room is larger than the Irish Heather and could fit more people in.
Has a date been decided on, or is this still up in the air? I would cast my vote for this Thursday 23rd.

dale are you able to make a reservation or warn them at the heather? i fear it's going to be quite the crowd to squeeze in there with the tweetup right after as well.
