Hi Joyce, It depends with what you want do with it. Let me assume you want to use it for images and running Drupal 7. The following works for me:
(1) Assuming you have a folder called libraries in sites/all, like so sites/all/libraries
Then download the latest version of colorbox plugin @ http://colorpowered.com/colorbox/colorbox.zip. Extract it in libraries so you have sites/all/libraries/colorbox
(2) Download the colorbox module and extract it in sites/all/modules i am assuming you have done this, configure the module
(3) You are able to change the settings @ admin/config/media/colorbox or under configuration > media > colorbox
(4) Create imagecache presets, find media under configuration and image styles, i will then add style and name it event for this illustration, create new style and effects then set it to 500x300 and save.
(5) I will then create a content type called events and manage its fields and then add a field image like event_image then save field settings. In the settings i will change Preview image style to event (this is the preset we created). Also might want to set Number of values to unlimited and save settings.
(7) At this point we haven't used the colorbox yet, hence to do that, while we are still in our events content type, just above find Manage Display. You will find our event_image field, just under format change it from image to colorbox, just on far right you can see a button where you can change the image preview settings. Update and save.
(8) The next thing is to create content of type events upload images, i did 3 just for illustration and save. You will be able to see the colorbox effect on your images by clicking. You can change settings @ configuration > media > colorbox, you are also able to tweek CSS to suit you.
