User group meeting

I hope all the LI Drupalers that attended NYCCamp had an awesome time... I sure did! Seeing Earl Miles speak was pretty cool!

Our next meetup is coming up fast. Below I have outlined a rough schedule for the event. I'd like to ask if anyone is our community is interested in filling in some of the speaking slots??

7:00-7:30pm - Introductions, arrivals, and networking
7:30-8:00pm - Deep dive topic (Open for Speaker)
8:00-8:30pm - Pizza, Q/A, and discussion
8:30-9:00pm - Lightning Rounds on a Drupal module(s). (Open for Speaker and module)
- Birds of a feather for new users.

The idea of the birds of a feather is for new users to sit with a few experienced users to talk about specific needs. One or two of us experienced folks will be available to sit and talk while the lightning rounds are happening.

Location Address:
Infosys International Inc.
110 Terminal Drive
Plainview, NY 11803

Thank you.

I have heard of a lot people leveraging Panels for many things and would like to learn more about the module. Not sure if this is best suited for a lighting round or a deep dive, but it would be great if we could include it in the 8/15 meet up some how.

Any thoughts?

I like the idea of Panels.

I like the idea of Panels. Specifically I like the contextual panel blocks. Personally, I have not used Panels to any large extent. Is anyone familiar and willing to step up to introduce us to the Panels modules?

I could do a talk on the Omega base theme. We have been doing a bit of work with this theme lately and I feel there are some really interesting talking points regarding subtheming and configuration. I feel it may also flow nicely following last meetings introduction to display suite. I can illustrate how to make display suite layouts responsive.

All ideas are welcome, our meetup is quickly approaching... :)

Thanks.

I can do panels. 20 minutes will give us a good tour. Too short a time for a deep dive but I can cover some use cases in that time.

We are a little less then a week away for our August meetup. I'd like to update this post with our agenda. We have a couple of really exciting talks lined up!

7:00-7:30pm - Introductions, arrivals, and networking
7:30-8:00pm - Panels, Panels, Panels. Ray Saltini will be introducing the group to the Panels suite of modules.
8:00-8:30pm - Pizza, Q/A, and discussion
8:30-9:00pm - Subtheming 101: Stewart Arnold will be following up on his last talk and will illustrate how to use Drush to download and install themes.

Birds of a feather for new users:
During the 8:30 time slot, if anyone is interested I will be available for some short one on one, or small group talks about specific needs you may be having with the Drupal system.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone down there... bring a friend!!

See you next week.

Thanks.

Last evening was another awesome Long Island Drupal meetup. It is great to see the group steadily growing with so many new Drupal enthusiasts showing up at every meet.

I hope everybody is getting something meaningful from these events, and it would be great to hear from all who have attended, how these can be made more productive for each of you all.

See you next month again.

Thank you.
