It's alright

The turn out at the event wasn't large but then it was a great one. We are planning an even bigger one. Presently, I'm working on a drupal forum for Nigeria and would need volunteers to make the event a successful one. Also, in order to make the event affordable, we are writing to organizations to sponsor it.

As the administrator of the Nigeria group here, I would like to have your email address.

drecute's picture

@murpheus

Is this group still active as the last post here is dated December 2009. Okay, showing my interest, I will like to know the following;

  1. What's the motive of this forum. Are we meant to write open source projects which can be committed to the Drupal community.
  2. What's the architecture like?
  3. Do you have any plan to setup an IRC channel for this (I can help with that).
  4. And more...

The Group

murpheus's picture

Hello drecute,

The group is still alive and my plan is that we arrange another camp at the University of Lagos this August. I would be in Nigeria then. We already have a url registered for the Nigerian group. www.drupalnigeria.org I didn't develop because I would like to have contribution to it. You can create the irc channel then post it on here so other users can come on to the channel. I have organizations in the UK, Spain and Cameroun willing to join us in some way.

You can reach me at any of the following address administrator@drupalnigeria.org, a.ayoola@gmail.com

ps: Bincom is commencing Drupal trainings in Nigeria in July.

ur support needed

badesemowo's picture

Response to the group and drupal generally has been a bit low. The main idea is to provide an avenue to inform , create a community and provide support for Drupal in Nigeria (and Nigerians in Diaspora)
We have had a lot more success in driving Joomla in Nigeria. Bincom will be taking on driving Drupal & Wordpress more in the 2nd half of 2010.

If we need to get a lot of

drecute's picture

If we need to get a lot of response from the open source public, we will need to do much more than this. I believe creating Drupal training, module and theme contributions as well will help drive the awareness about Drupal in Nigeria.

I have contacted murpheus about a few ideas I have and I hope he responds quite on time.

I am willing to give my support at any level at any time whether theme development, module development, architectural design and the like.

IMHO, I will like to suggest

drecute's picture

IMHO, I will like to suggest that the next DrupalCamp Lagos should be made free. I mean if the turn out of the initial edition wasn't impressive, it obviously shows that we don't have yet enough Drupal skills. Making the event free will inspire people to come and learn the fundamentals of Drupal.

drecute is right, having the

ericgundersen's picture

drecute is right, having the camps be free has been key to growing them in the US. The trick is finding a university or NGO to give you a couple rooms + internet and then at least one organization (drupal shop?) that will put up $50 for free coffee. I would be interesting in sponsoring the coffee if there is real commitment to organize a camp. email me eric ~at~ developmentseed.org
