getting started

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.
mixel's picture

At the moment we have several demands that need solution:

  • Backhand management.
  • A microjob exchange module (MJE).
  • Country manager distributions (CMD).
  • Intranet.
  • Layout.
  • The backhand is taken up by the current team and is not directly related to any drupal development or tuning that needs to be done. We also need our own micro-job exchange module to be created.

There are several modules or taks we should look, here some I'm thinking of:

  • E-Commerce mdule for MJE
  • localization (i18n) for the CMD
  • theme development for layout
  • community tools for intranet (event, forum, etc)
  • For our own module we need CVS access, I'll be looking at that part. For the other modules, if there is need of any change, it can be done as a patch. As we plan to work on pjn2 distributed, we should make a good sandbox test server to try out the distribution.

To get some work started, I would like to know your interest, if you would like to work or test some part and if there would be any other issue we need to look at.

    Wiki

    aries's picture

It think someone should set up a collaborative editing stuff, like a wiki or something else for brainstorm. If you mind, I'll set up one. I think my company can handle with MJE, E-Commerce and theme developement but of course other parts are welcome too. :) If you delegate these task to different teams, we have to count with timezone differencies, and communication problems. The question is: do we good in communication not just in planing and implementing? Do we have a good project manager who can knock the developers together?

    Introduction

    AndyRoberts's picture

Hi, I am hoping to take on pajamanation country manager for the UK. My aquaintance with drupal up to now has been with installation and adminstration, and trying to figure out how to configure it for the best community communications. Results are inconclusive so far.

Am I correct in assuming the project is expected to go live with drupal 4.7 and then convert over to drupal 5 at a later date?

I hope it will be Drupal 5 ready

    aries's picture

I think Drupal 5 has many features what we can use. Like jQuery, multistep forms, array of links in the themes, distributed authentication, session and cache plugins... These are important I think.

I've seen plans for Drupal 6 with i18n integrated ... we would love to use that, but as always we simply need to be pragmatic and see what we can work with.

p.s. I've made a quit advanced implementation of jQuery that will be part of a drupal 5 module => http://www.mixel.be/?q=node/18

    Finally!

    Taran's picture

That's good news for i18n and Drupal... should have been in 4 and 5, so it would be nice if it were actually in 6 and worked intuitively.

    5 will do

    Joris Dries's picture

Drupal 6 would be cool, but for now I start dev in 5. The readily available modules are a great base, and we should work towards the future.

My vote for working on Drupal 5

    alexis's picture

It's quite stable already and have lots of good stuff, as the already mentioned jQuery and easier to manage multistep forms.

I think we start by defining a project manager and a few functions for everybody working on this.

    depends

    mixel's picture

If its up to me we go live with 5.0, but it depends more on what modules will be available for 5.0.

    What module dependencies are there?

    Taran's picture

With a clear idea of what is needed, perhaps we can help stack the deck toward 5.0.

    taxonomy_menu module

    AndyRoberts's picture

I read this posted yesterday in support@drupal.org mailing list:

"I use drupal 4.7.x with taxonomy_menu module (thanks you all for your work!) and I would upgrade to drupal 5.x.
I'm curious if there is still someone working on taxonomy_menu module, becouse I saw that there isn't a version for drupal 5.x yet."

Is the taxonomy_menu likely to be needed? For browsing the microjobs via open format user tagging perhaps.

    think we can manage

    mixel's picture

With the taxonomy features available we should have enough to start from. Still as I'm planing to have the community in control, there is a good part of uncertainty about the direction to go. Maybe it will be an issue when the beta gets out.

    collaborative editing stuff

    mixel's picture

That would be part of the intranet and communcation about pjn2, don't you think?

If it will be a wiki or a drupal distribution or a google.docs ... that all depends on the needs. Maybe we should start a new treat (story) about the communication/intranet. Timezone differences is not a problem when your working with asynchrony communication (most communication is like that).

I'll be managing the pjn2 project, the management of several tasks will be pointed when the tasks are well enough defined. I think one other problem that comes with management is the cost of a specific task, again this will come as it goes. It all depends on the needs, the feedback (of several interest-parties), etc.

First things first, lets have a look at what we got and where we want to go to.

    Interested in helping

Hi Mixel, I just got your email about this group. I've been following the PJN as a country manager for some time and as a Drupal developer I would like to contribute.

It's great you've decided to use Drupal.

I'm currently working in a module for managing recurring billing of memberships via Paypal and, hopefully, Authorize.net (which I've heard will have an API for that in a few weeks).

This module will be generic enough and could help PJN to handle their different subscriptions plans, it will be possible to integrate it with other payments processors. As far as I know in the US the other two that handle recurring billing via API are Linkpoint API and Payflow Pro. Does anybody know about Europe based processors with recurring billing API support?

I think that this module could be a part of what you're calling E-Commerce for MJE.

There's a lot to be done but I'm glad you've decided to distribute the work. Let's keep it organized and I'm sure we could have a great project running soon.

    Regards!

    E-commerce

    mixel's picture

I've been searching for the Europe based processors and noticed I'm out of my domain. At the moment only the first steps in pjn2 are taken (like setting up a development server asap), but we should already continue the discussion so that when we can start on it the task is clear. Its good we got you on the team ;)

We should have a new tread on payment methods, I'll try to get more pjn people together on the topic => there is for example a problem in Russia with paypall. Of course we need to have info on pjn related issues, for a deeper discussion on the technology there exists a E-commerce group.

    And from Trinidad and Tobago...

Another Drupal developer who may be able to chip in. Very interested in the il8n aspects dealing with dynamic content... I'm guessing translations won't be an issue?

    KnowProSE.com

    translation by country managers

    mixel's picture

The translation would be the responsability of the country managers.

That's fine, but not what I meant:

    Taran's picture

I was talking about dynamic translations through il8n workflow for true multilingual sites. From what I understand, we are avoiding the inheritance of i18n problems through monolingual websites. From what I have read so far, it would seem that this is the approach being used instead of any site using more than one language.

    Hi all,

I just signed up as the country manager for the Philippines. I don't have time and resources to code right now but I can be a tester and QA person.

    MJE

    Joris Dries's picture

Hi, let me introduce myself, I am a 27-year old computer scientist (very young :p) and will be putting a lot of effort in pjn2 under the competent eye of Mixel. Right now I will be taking on the development of the MJE, and I will closely be watching this group and anxiously await the 'intranet'. If you guys have questions, fire away...
