User group meeting
Reminder: GR Drupal User group meets tonight.
For September (TONIGHT!) we'll be discussing SEO, or Search Engine Optimization.
SEO represents a borderland where hucksters thrive and people make money by “doing things behind the scenes.” Although Google’s algorithms remain secret, we will review some best practices for optimizing Drupal sites for SEO. Bring your own tips, best practices, and “secret recipes” and we’ll discuss. What is your experience with SEO and Drupal? Bring any tips or questions you may have.
And as always, we'll be moving down to The Winchester for drinks and/or food afterwards. Looking forward to it!

Re Tonight's Meeting
I would have liked very much to attend but only found out about the meeting a few minutes ago. I'm 60 miles away so won't make it.
What am I missing? Does the group have an online calendar?
Hoping for next month,
Jack

Very sorry, Jack. We had a discussion about this meeting in a different thread a week or two ago and forgot to post it as an event until this afternoon. So, yes, typically we will post this meeting event well in advance--we intend even weeks in advance. But you can also pretty much count on a meeting with the Grand Rapids Drupal group on the second Monday of every month. As far as I can recall, we rarely cancel--perhaps we cancel one meeting per year in the past.
But we'll try to post here as an event well in advance. Sorry you can't attend and hope you can attend in the future.

Sorry I can't make it tonight, but I just want to say "thanks" to those who are helping keep these events going. It's important to have a strong local users group, so thank you!
One specific SEO-related thing we just implemented was the ALinks module. With it, you can convert keywords/phrases into hyperlinks. We're using it as an easy way to create links from our main site to our other ministry sites (and vice versa). In seconds, you can create these links site-wide (and specify whether it should link only the first instance within a node, or all instances, etc). Good for users and good for SEO if you have a collection of websites where such cross-links make sense.
keywords/phrases into hyperlinks
I want to ask a question to postuna. Does the modul that you mentioned have following qualifications? 1) Not spoiling h1- h6 headers 2) Not disturbing keywords that already have links. 3) Exact matching (part of a word will not be a link)
Thanks for your answer.

Good questions, but
Good questions, but unfortunately I haven't tested them (it doesn't really happen with our particular keywords). The most common use-case is for very general keyword linking, so I suspect it handles those situations graciously.
I do know that it lets you assign a style class to the links, enable/disable case-sensitivity, set whether to open in a new window (on a keyword-by-keyword basis if desired), set which content types it should affect, and set how many instances should be linked within a node (we have it set to only the first instance). Hope this helps.
Thanks
Thank you for your answer.
