Omega Content Types

Hi

I hope someone could help me out with a query.

I'm trying out the Omega theme to see if I can use it instead of Zen, which I normally use. I've read the Omega Handbook and there's a statement within it, at http://drupal.org/node/1298694, that I find slightly confusing.

It states in bold that it "is very important to understand that you should place your content in Blocks, Blocks in Regions, Regions in Zones & Zones in Sections". Should I take this literally and only place my content in Blocks? Does it mean that I shouldn't use other content types such as Article, Basic Page or custom content types? I imagine that if content was only placed in Blocks it would quickly become unwieldy.

Thanks.

Hi,

No, you don't need to take that statement literally. I can understand why you might be confused by this description. The simple answer is that you still use content types, by default the 'main page content' block is positioned in the 'Content' region, have a look in the Blocks UI.

If you have setup a Omega Sub-theme then in your theme settings UI you should see Zones and Regions config tab. Here you'll see how the Sections, Zones, Regions are just ways to structure your layout. It's up to you which regions you use to position content in.

If you have Debugging turned on with 'Show the debugging blocks by default.' then you should see how the regions are organised. The default regions available are usually a little overkill for most sites, so you'll probably want to disable some of them.

In the Blocks UI, you'll also see all the regions that you can place blocks in to. Whether you choose to use the Blocks UI or another layout tool like context, panels, display suite is up to you. Now I understand. Thanks
