User group meeting

Hey all,

It's that regular beer and Drupal night, seems like the Llandoger is the favoured venue at the moment so let's stick with that unless anyone would like to suggest an alternative.

I'd be keen to hear what people would like to get out of these meetups (other than drinking beer and Drupal chat) and whether we could do some more learning/knowledge sharing type activities. We've attempted presentations and stuff before but maybe something easier and simple to prepare would be more suitable, perhaps a topic or theme for the night?

To start the ball rolling, 2 things I'm keen to learn more about at the moment are:

Drupal and Backbone integration - Joe I'm sure you can help me here
Meastro module - after reading this post http://groups.drupal.org/node/278433

Cheers

Rich

backbone

I've messed around with the http://drupal.org/project/backbone module quite some time ago, and it was pretty good then. Simple node/views integration. The project page looks a lot more complete now with tests and stuff. I don't remember there being anything dodgy about it even a year or so ago though.

I'd be happy to do a run through of backbone fundamentals with some examples at a non-pub meetup (and at a pub meetup, but if we're honest it will just be me waving my arms around, talking and no one understanding).

If you were planning on using the integration module its pretty much just drop it straight in.

I've built some more substantial applications using Backbone (and Ember and others) and have ended up writing a layer on top of Drupal web services to make it a bit friendlier to deal with. On one application I used SlimPHP (although you could use symfony or some other light starting point) to provide an actually nice rest interface, but I didnt need any Drupal functions for that... just something to wrap Mongo

What is your use case rich? What are you trying to do? As you know, I'm more than happy to talk at length about anything JS related

I may run through my use-cases with you on Weds if that's OK, I may struggle to communicate them via this comment box.... :)

Be good to hear your thoughts (at length if you like :)) on the benefits of using Backbone/Ember over jQuery.

cool

Some learning sharing stuff sounds good and the things you are all ready talking about is right up my street!

It would be good to get a pub that lets us put up a projector or similar so everyone could see/get involved.

should be in

Better to be a geek than an idiot.
My software never has bugs. It just develops random features . . .

Should be able to make it

I'm hoping to make it this week, so look forward to meeting you all. I've only been to one previously and seemed to be mostly working with Marcus that night, rather than meeting people.

I've expressed previously that I would be more interested in more of a structured, learning type thing, so am all for further discussions on this. I learnt quite a lot during some of the meetups in Cardiff.

Cheers, see you there.

I'll be there, I think tlo is

XHPROF for PHP performance profiling
Started playing with the Search API and Apache Solr

Anyone using Pantheon?

I'll be there, but not until 7 or 8.

Anyone using Pantheon for production sites? I'm loving it for development.

What pricing plans are you using, and are you happy with their support hours (US PST time)?

See you later

Looks very similar to the

Looks very similar to the Acquia dev platform, but much cheaper.

Will check it out properly at some point
