Now that g.d.o has been upgraded to D6 is there any chance of creating a location based map for all events? Something like the map in http://central.wordcamp.org/ but with some views filtering options would be very cool way of browsing events and quite easy to implement. We are starting to have so many Drupal events every year that it's difficult to keep track on what's going on. Map with filtering by event type and dates would be a huge improvement on usability.

Location + Gmap?
There was some discussion on installing Location + Gmap here some time ago: http://groups.drupal.org/node/21551#comment-74661 . Does anyone know the status of those plans?

Keeping it simple
I would personally start with just events and even for those I would let people choose the location from a map instead of geocoding addresses. Global geocoding is not exactly easy and it's easy to just pick any point at a map. This would also work for groups which could just place them in middle of a country for example. I don't think this needs to be exact for groups, but for events it would be helpful to actually know where to go. This would be also a very simple location + gmap implementation that would just require a bit of theming to make it look good.

Have a look at http://drupalcamp.cz/attendees/map how it could look like :)
It's really easy to use
