April Meetup - Alternate Hosting Needed

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hey all,

Our next meetup is in a few weeks and I just realized that I (and my coworker David Henry) will be out of town on the 18th and will be unavailable to host our April meetup here at the Museum.

Anyone care to set up another space so that we can meet as planned?

Thanks!

April Meeting Location

I'm a newbie to all of this, so I thought I'd just lurk for awhile, but I may be able to help with a meeting space. What are the requirements? e.g. how many people usually attend? What are the hours of the meetup? What kind of facility is required? Is Kirkwood too far from the normal location?

Feel free to pm me with requirements and I'll see if I can help.

Jennifer

Kirkwood is actually closer

Kirkwood is actually closer to me, so I wouldn't be opposed to meeting there :)

The meeting is usually from 7-8:30 (or a little later) on the third Thursday of the month. (I guess the 16th next month?).

Thanks Jennifer! Just to add

Thanks Jennifer! Just to add to what Jeff mentioned, I've seen our meetups typically have anywhere from 5 to 20 attendees (lately, lower than 10 though). I would say that the only requirement would be that the space had a large conference-style table with comfy chairs. A projector also usually comes in handy for presenters or folks who'd like to share what they're working on or need help with. Here are some other "nice-to-have's" that would make for a great space (but definitely wouldn't be required):

  • Free wifi
  • A whiteboard/flipboard
  • Access to power outlets
  • Free/close parking

That's all I can think of at the moment. Hope that helps!

Possible Space for April's Meetup

skippydoodle's picture

I don't know if this would meet all the criteria, but my friend has offered up her art gallery in Kirkwood (on Argonne directly across from the train station) to use for the April meetup. Future meetups might be possible if their schedule permits (they usually use it for workshops and musical gatherings in the evenings).

The space is large enough, but it probably isn't what you are used to. They have plenty of chairs (a few comfy, but mostly folding types), no conference tables but many folding tables. There are electrical outlets available, but I would recommend bringing a few power strips if you need several for equipment. There is no public WiFi, but they have a private WiFi. My laptop can access it, but I'm not sure how comfortable they would be in giving out their password to everyone there.

It is not a business type setting, but there is plenty of room, it's quiet, private and roomy.

If that doesn't work, I am an alum at 3 local universities. I'm not active, but perhaps they'd offer up a classroom.

Thoughts?

I have only tweeted with them a few times, but they have a space downtown. Does anyone know them?

April Meetup - Alternate Hosting Needed

Hey All!

Just throwing out another option... our office is located at 270 & Manchester.

We have a conference room that I could plan to have available. (fits ~10 comfortably)
Comfy chairs.
Projector.
Wifi.
Free parking (we're in the county so lots of parking and all free) :-)

Just throwing out another option if a space is needed...

April Meeting Location

It sounds like Jess' place might be better suited. The gallery does have plenty of free parking as well, but it is a little better suited to a social gathering than a business setting. Either way is fine, just let me know if I need to reserve that evening.

The gallery sounds really neat also. :) Kirkwood might also be a fairly central location. Likewise... Whatever is most convenient for you all, we'll go from there.

I'd vote for the SBS offices.

I'd vote for the SBS offices. We'd have Internet and a projector for Jeff's preso. And I'm looking forward to hearing it as its been three months in the making. It isn't any fault of his we've had so many meetups canceled on us, what with bad weather but it has been a long time.

Any of the above

I'm up for any of them.

For the Future

Zorkoff's picture

I will be out of town for the April Meeting, but in the future, if you need a space I can get a room here at SLU LAW. There would be a public wi-fi that we can access and I can choose the type of room, depending on the estimated size of the group.

Sounds like SBS would be a

Sounds like SBS would be a good option for April if it's available. Also, just because it's been three months doesn't mean I've spent all that time working on the presentation... But I think it'll be good anyways :)

SBS is good for April 18...

I'll be posting the notes and

I'll be posting the notes and video from my issue queue presentation tomorrow. Tonight I had water issues, and had to spend most of the night bailing my sump pump and digging a trench to fix the drain pipe. Such is life :)

Re: Notes 'n Stuff

Sorry to hear you came home to a mess. I found a similar mess, but I refuse to dig in the mud.

Thank you for all the work on the presentation. I'll watch the video and check out the notes when you get them posted. Everyone was very helpful tonight. I appreciate the words of direction and encouragement. Hopefully, there is something I can offer to the group and to the Drupal community.

I mentioned pantheon last night. Here's a youtube from the founder on how to setup a pantheon account with their platform.
