Thanks to Contributors!
What a wonderful week at DrupalCon. We had nearly 30 people in our COD BoF on Tuesday, and many of them stuck around to sprint with us throughout the week.
We committed changes from 2 new members to the COD community, Andrew Morton (mortona2k) and Christopher Guindon (chrisguindon). We also reviewed patches from Matt Connerton (mrconnerton) and Alex Burrows (aburrows). In addition to working on code updates, we focused extensively on requirements gathering and technical architecture for the 7.x version of COD.
Survey for Camp Organizers
To inform future progress on code & development, we solicited feedback from key COD stakeholders, including BADCamp, SANDCamp, Linux Fest Northwest, Design4Drupal, NYCCamp, the DA (Drupal Association), among others.
However, we weren’t able to speak to all of the conference organizers that we wanted to.
To help inform the development priorities for COD on Drupal 7, we’re asking anyone who is a site owner for a Drupal Camp or other conference that uses or might use COD to fill out this survey that rates potential features in a Drupal 7 version of COD using the MOSCOW method (Must have, Should have, Could have, Won’t have).
The philosophy behind the MOSCOW method here is simple: When presented with a list of features, it’s easy to say “Sure, I want that” to all of them. Prioritizing in terms of Must, Should, Could and Won’t helps us focus on the most important priorities so that we can direct our development efforts towards that functionality.
Feedback from Camp Organizers & Current state of COD
We received two consistent pieces of feedback as maintainers from camp organizers:
- We need to provide more frequent updates on the status of COD and immediate plans for development
Items that help explain the status of COD for Drupal 7:
- You can see a rough overview of the current status of COD functionality in Drupal 7

- To chat live about COD, join the #drupal-cod channel in IRC
- We need to help make it more clear how people can help with COD by making sure the COD issue queue is up-to-date with relevant, actionable issues.
We really appreciate this feedback, and are working to make sure that we address it in the future.
COD is very much still alive!
This week we found that DrupalCamp oragnizers are using multiple variants of COD7 being used, including Alpha1, Alpha2, as well as alternatives to COD such as Eventbrite, site archives from previous DrupalCamps, and custom Drupal 7 builds.
It’s clear that there is a fairly steep learning curve for those trying out the new OG features from Alpha2, and to help address that issue, Emilie (dyannenova) is working on a wizard that will simplify the event creation process Issue 2009512
We are also working on getting more time for Acquians to work on COD, but our main contribution at the moment is answering questions and reviewing patches. If you are having trouble with the recent version of COD, find Jakob (japerry), Joseph (jpontani), or Emilie (dyannenova), as they have gone through setting up Alpha2 and should be able to help.
Alpha3 Status
We were hoping to release an Alpha3 of COD during DrupalCon, but unfortunately ran out of time. However, a release of Alpha3 should be here in June, and will include bug fixes to views that were broken in Alpha2, as well as contrib updates and renaming of views.
Get involved in COD!
If you've made fixes to views or code that are applicable upstream, please share it with us! We watch the issue queue, and we are in IRC in #drupal-cod.
Thanks everyone for participating in the COD sprint at DrupalCon Portland 2013. See you in the queue!
