I recently discovered the Drupal world and am actively seeking info on building (rebuilding, actually) an existing static html site. Have done the following so far:
- Ordered a Drupal book from Chapters which has yet to arrive
- Cruizing the interweb for info
- Installed Drupal on my home PC
Cheers!

Hey there! Someone posted here! :)
Hey Jody, good to see someone using this group. Not like I'm any better, but I couldn't really figure out what you would use a regional group for. Meetups in person? Following on in that vein, that's probably what the "Event" post type would be geared toward (i.e. Edmonton Drupallers' meetup or other relevant event.) I suspect most people use the "Story" post (node) type.
So... have you used other CMS or blog packages, or is this your first venture into database-driven websites?

Jumped the fence
Hi. I forgot I even posted to this group. Since posting it, I've moved on to Joomla. Seems the site I want to rebuild can get a free hosting account where they run Joomla. So that's where I'm headed. I still don't know enough to comment whether I prefer Drupal over Joomla. They both look like they can do what I want to do, and they both have a steep learning curve. Where is my climbing gear?
I'll probably stay as a member of this group -- incase anything interesting pops up.
Cheers,
Jody

Aww, too bad. Best of luck with Joomla, I haven't tried it so I can't comment. What I can say though is that since I moved from PHP-Nuke to Drupal, there's no way I'll ever look back! Or for that matter, there's no way I'll look at another CMS - Drupal is just that awesome. :) But there you go - different strokes.

I'm from Edmonton
I'm from Edmonton, AB. I've used Geeklog, Php BB with mx-portal, and tried Joomla. In my opinion, Drupal is the best by far. It has a very steep learning curve but it also has more features and is much more powerful than others I've tried.
