NYS Forum Drupal User Group
MEETING: Wednesday, Sept 18, 2013, 10:00am-Noon, CTG Office, 187 Wolf Road, Suite 301, Albany, NY
Our next CMS subgroup meeting will focus on Drupal since most respondents to my recent survey expressed an interest in Drupal. We are also planning a regular Web and Accessibility Group meeting for Friday, Oct 4, and a general CMS subgroup session (i.e., not just Drupal since we know there is interest in Teamsite, Joomla, Sitecore, Sharepoint, and general CMS issues as well) will be part of that meeting (but more on that to follow). We’ll also figure out how we want to continue with the various subgroups and interests in these meetings.
We are going with the 10:00 – Noon time for this Sept 18 meeting because I have another meeting that day from 8:00-10:00 and more importantly it provides an opportunity for any and all interested to continue the discussion during lunch (non-complimentary) at one of the many fine dining establishments here on Wolf Road.
We’re going to fashion the agenda on the fly at the meeting, but here are some topics of interest that have been expressed (in no particular order):
- Get a barometer reading of what level each person is at with Drupal (novice, medium, expert) and their technical/non-technical level
- Integrating jQuery and Javascript the correct Drupal way. Lots of bad examples out there, but it would be nice to know how to do it right.
- Making cTools/Panels contexts work to pass data around panels and views.
- Fully and clearly understanding how field relationships work within views in the Advanced Options so that you can pull in the data you really want in the way you really want it
- Taxonomy vs Organic Groups (which to use?)
- The Zurb-Foundation theme (https://drupal.org/project/zurb-foundation), curious if anyone is using it or knows anything about it
- Tips and Techniques for customizing themes
- Best Practices for Creating a Drupal Site (for someone who is new to this game), i.e., “first do this, then do this, don’t bother with that, etc.”
- Data Visualizations in Drupal (if anyone has done this, either using off-the-shelf modules or roll-your-owns)
- Which Rich Text Editor to use (or as they say on the Big Island “Aloha to CKEditor”)
So yes, I know that’s not an agenda, and I doubt we’ll cover them all at this meeting, but it should give us a start. Any “show-and-asks” would be nice as well, so if you have something, bring it.
