Geocaching sites using drupal

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Well - a somewhat delayed first post for the geocaching group - but finally back at my desk.

I see several possible ways to use drupal for geocaching sites - from a straight drupal site thru to complete custom modules with a large community.

For the time being I am using a module that allows me to tie taxonomy values into links into geocaching.com (http://www.chrissearle.org/software/geocaching_module). But - its very basic - since I don't see any good external APIs from them.

I am very interested in hearing what other people have done in this area. I know that at least one of the subscribers is using the same module as me - and another is developing their own - I'd like to hear more on what people are working on.

Anyway - enough bla from me - what are you using?

Am I reading this right...

Am I reading this right... no comments thus far? Well, in case anyone is listening I'll add a quick FYI.

I'm a co-founder and webmaster for the Iowa Geocachers Organization (IGO) and have just started converting my sites to Drupal 6.x (7 sites so far in the last 5 months). I recently made the pitch to the IGO suggesting that we (mostly me) should move the site to Drupal soon and begin to take advantage of some of the community features there.

The current IGO site has a lot of custom PHP that I've written for handling event data, new caches, user data, some online competition, etc. I suspect that some of this code will find its way into new Drupal modules but I too am interested in what other cachers are doing with Drupal.

Wow, can't believe there have been no comments either.

I've just launched a Drupal Geocaching site for Japan. Nothing fancy but it's a start!

I should have written earlier. The new "temporary" home of the IGO is at http://igo.tamatoledo.org.

Nice site! I just gotta ask:

How did you implement these pages, is there a module? Which one?

And how did you get the milestone/leaderboard to work? I though that Groundspeak's DB was off access, so impossible to generate stats like that ...

And a cache of the month is a great idea!

Yes you should have! I'm

Yes you should have!

I'm always looking to see what other Drupal Geocaching sites look like so I can 'borrow' ideas :)

totsubo joined the IGO forums (no cost) and posted a note under the "Technically Speaking" forum there. I'd like to suggest that if you want to learn more about how the IGO Drupal web site works you should consider doing the same. Join the forums and keep watch for future postings about IGO's implementation of Drupal for geocaching.

You can find this particular forum at http://igo.tamatoledo.org/phpbbforum/viewforum.php?f=29.

Thanks! I see that someone

Thanks! I see that someone posted a question similar to mine already! Will definitely follow that thread and hope to get some more insight on how to accomplish this with Drupal!
