New Date?

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Hey gang,

Just got a notification that the next LCN function is the same night as our usual meeting. In fact, it seems that their preferred night coincides with when we've been scheduling our meetings, the fourth Thursday of the month.

Normally, it's not a huge deal to skip a month, but as it stands if we were to follow that policy that would put our next meeting on Dec. 24, and I suspect realistically we'd all prefer to to be roasting chestnuts or otherwise observing the holiday season that night. That would put our next meeting on Jan 28, more than two months away.

What are your thoughts? On the one hand, perhaps by then the community project we've been talking about would be possible in Drupal 7. On the other hand, it feels to me that we do have some momentum on the project idea, and it seems a waste to squander it.

It we wanted to look at an alternate night, it could be as simple as looking at the first Thursday or the month instead of the fourth, or we could re-open discussion about what night works best for everyone.

Thoughts?

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to quickly introduce myself and say Hi! My name is Aaron McGowan and currently the owner of CyberGeek's Software Solutions.

In regards to a day - it does not matter to me what day as I am just happy to be apart of the group.

Best Regards,
Aaron McGowan

As long as it's on Thursday

As long as it's still Thursday it doesn't matter which one. Unless it's Christmas eve.

Maybe we should have our meeting earlier in December. I'm sure D7 will be good enough at least for us to get the basic requirements of the system in place. Any module not ported can most likely be comparably cloned using content types :)

Then, as the modules do get ported we can start implementing the ones we want.

Whither Views?

From what I gather the big holdout for Drupal 7 for doing anything practical in the near future will be Views. That said, there are probably lots of very useful things we can do without it in Drupal 7, especially with all the new fields-related functionality built in.

Worst case scenario, there is a development version of Views for Drupal 7 available, but considering the plan is to finish Views 3 first (which is still very much in development) and then port it to Drupal 7, it's hard to know how soon Views 7.x-3.0 will be ready for prime time. I suppose we could also look at putting some of our resources towards submitting patches to get Views ready for D7 too.

Before I digress completely from the original topic, though, let me suggest that we move our meetings to the first Thursday of each month. That would make our next meeting Dec 3, with the following one on Jan 7. Any objections?
