Best Approach to a "matching" site

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hey all,

I've been a drupal fan for almost 6 weeks! I've done one site and now I'm on to a fairly big one.

It's a job search site that wants to go beyond the norm... think monster.com meets eharmony.com... and I'm trying to determine the best approach to setting up the 26 "points of commonality". - ie. how people will get matched with the job of their dreams...

I am very open to suggestions. I know php fairly well... (I would have done this from scratch before I adopted drupal...)

Is taxonomy the way to go?
I know CCK offers great abilities to have custom forms and fields...

just a little nudge in the right direction would be so helpful.
(and yes, I have ordered the new drupal book - should be here soon!) :)

thanks all!

Rod
