Hi Houstonians,
I am new(bie) to Drupal. I have a fastrack web project that I thought Drupal would save me time on. Then I read the 'pro drupal development book' and realized customizing may be a project unto itself. Im interested in anybody that is willing to let me bounce ideas off, ask questions and advice, and maybe even hire for tutoring or development if I get desperate. Living in the Houston Heights.
Thanks,
Bruce

Read the documentation at drupal.org
The pro development book is moe about custom modules, as I understand it. There is PLENTY you can do with existing ones.
My advice would be to just dive in and try to get something up and running without looking at that particular book. The handbook online and the forums should be all you need to get started.
Dru*PAL* could be here...
Hey there!
My wife and I may be able to help some. We are dabbling with Drupal for a little while and build some Drupal sites, take a look at www.techsophic.com in the clients directory, some (including the TechSophic site itself) are Drupal.
If you think we may be of any assistance, then shoot me an email - geri@techsophic.com
Yes, I should have said that too :)
I am ... wife... as you can see from the picture (same dog).
The rest of my thought after... read the forum... was. Of course we can help!
If you get stuck ever... email us. My husband, Geri, is VERY good at training, so he should be a great help.
Thanks!
I appreciate the fast reply you made. I agree that jumping in and learning by doing is a great way. I feel better now that there are some others out there I can talk to. I was worried about committing to the Drupal framework and getting stuck, but not as much now.
Cheers!

No Prob
I wouldn't worry about drupal. I really think it is a pretty good solution, and pretty scalable. So far I find it very handy. Sometimes you run into frustration, but such is life. Besides, that's what online forums are for.
Eventually, we will set up some meetings, and then we'll all learn new tricks!
:-)
Thank you so much for being open to questions. I definitely will be contacting you.
