Hi all.
I'd like to find out what Drupal employers in Melbourne are after, and how I can go about meeting their requirements. I know this is a very general question, but I don't want to make this post a self-promotion!
Also, are there other ways apart from this group and Seek et al of finding Drupal jobs?
Regards,
Nigel

Hiya Nigel,
I'm not an employer, I'm a contract Drupal developer, but I'll do a bit
of a brainstorm for you.
Most employers want someone that can work on site and that have general
good employee qualities. Being on time and reliable, Being interested
in their work, Being a good team member.
You'll need a basic skill set of Drupal module development, Drupal Theme
development, CSS, Javascript. Then on top of that it'd be ideal to
know SaSS/Compass, JQuery. You'll need to be comfortable using the
Drupal API website, PHP manual, Jquery API etc. and developer tools
like Git, GitHub. Most of this is easy to learn on the fly if you
have a history of PHP / Web Development.
Having some examples of your work is another important part. The best
way to do this is to have some examples on Drupal.org. Help out on
projects you use when you find a bug.
As for finding work I reckon go along to the Drupal Meetups, Go to
DrupalSouth, Get on IRC. Get to know the local Drupal people and ask
where they are working and send off a resume.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply!
Thanks!
I'd not heard of SaSS/Compass, so I'll learn that. I'll also try to get along to the Drupal meetups. Any IRC server/channel in particular?
