While assessing E-Commerce I came across the following problems:
Inventory tracking:

Inventory tracking seems to fall apart at the checkout. I set the number in stock to 1 and then changed the quanty, on the cart page, to 17 and there were no errors and I could checkout with this quantity.

There is Qty for the File product? Perhaps people want to buy the right for others to use the file but it seems unlikely.
Tax:
- I wanted to add a global 12% tax for V.A.T. as the company is based in the UK. It seemed to force me to specify a region for the tax? I want a simple flat tax rate, which ether forces me to setup a region for ALL but then I have different shipping rates for outside the UK so this eliminates that. I was forced to use the Flexicharge module to handle Tax then. So the Tax module seems redundant?
Otherwise it seems a solid system.

Yes these are 2 areas which are high on my hit list for v4. But the problem has been that both of these have required a lot of little steps to be done before we can make these happen.
Inventory - I need to get the product features working. This will mean that I will be able to get rid of the tangible product type as it is just a generic product with the shipping and inventory features added. This means that we will be able to make an inventory system which is best of breed as it only needs to be implemented once, and not like now, for every product type which needs inventory. This will include things like stock level checking at time of checkout/invoice, temporary allocation so no one else can take your product, and maybe even in the future back orders or pre-allocation of ordered stock.
Actually the tax module is going to be removed. We are also going to embed a special taxapi in the checkout/invoice so that a specific tax module can be called at the right times to create the charges. In the case of generic taxes the flexicharge module is going to handle this. The specific tax modules will be created in situations where tax needs to be implemented properly.

Thanks for your quick response gordon, so does this mean that Inventory tracking is not working at all for E-Commerce? IF not then are the "product features" going to be working any time soon or should I be looking into hacking it myself?
