SWDUG - thanks for coming!

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hello!

Firstly, a big thank you to everyone who came along on Tuesday August 19th . It really was fantastic to see some new faces, and great to catch up with everyone I already know. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves as much as I did.

Talking after the event, it was pointed out to me that there was one important question that we didn't ask or answer properly, that we probably should have:

What do you hope to gain from attending the SWDUG meetups?

I'd like to hear from everyone who attended, and perhaps those who planned to attend but couldn't make it. I think it's important that we can figure out how to actually be of service to the local Drupal community (rather than just becoming a podium for speakers, as that can quickly turn into a brag fest. I know I'm guilty of it).

Big thanks again for coming along, and again thanks to FoHub and CodeEnigma for helping us host the event in the first place. Looking forward to many more.

I should probably go first

I should probably go first since I'm cheeky enough to put everyone on the spot. Again.

Other than pizza, I'd love to come away from a SWDUG night having learned at least 1 new thing. I think it's important to keep pushing myself, otherwise I'll quickly become someone who talks about how they used to be technical ;-)

It'd be nice to have met some more like minded people, and if I can give Drupal a better chance, or more exposure in the local tech community generally, that wouldn't be a bad thing.

Oh, and the pizza. Though I probably shouldn't...

What do i want to get out of

What do i want to get out of it????

Ummm meet people in the field, complain, and learn something new. Oh and pizza.

Its nice to meet some like minded people as instanceofjamie said, and i'm keen to help others improve and in doing so learn more myself.

While i like the idea of doing a group project and code sprinting, i am very short for time out side of work as i imagine many of you are too, so talks, show an tell and offering assistance is more what i imagine will be of benefit.

P.S. Thanks to FoHub and CodeEnigma for venue and pizza, much appreciated.

Another big thanks to

Another big thanks to FoundersHub and CodeEnigma.

I do like the sound of a group project, but I also struggle with time outside of work so I'm not sure how much I can commit. I would like to get my head around contributing back though, so maybe a session on how all of that works?

I think we discussed it on the day, but I struggle to work out where to start with a new project. Do you have any shortcuts or methods you've built up to help you get started quicker. Be it a nice base theme, or what modules to you always install straight away and why?

Maybe some code talk throughs where you dismantle a module you've written and explain why you did it that way.

I do also like the idea of a community project where we help out an organisation or project, but again this depends on time.
